I've been looking at those 52" springs also. I have no doubt that they'll flex great. I'm afraid they might have more lift then I want though. I read the Chevy guys are getting about 4 inches of lift when they put them on the front of their Blazers. The rear shackles are going to be right under the front body (tub) mount so be ready to do some fabrication. I have a friend that probably has a set. I'll do a mock up and shoot some pictures for ya.
I have 54 inch springs in my truck, BUT I have not had my truck out to try out the flex yet. My springs act like they will flex real good. I got them from a 1968 Ford 1/2 ton 2wd rear. I am also running 1986 Ford Bronco (fullsize) in the rear and I have moved them under the frame.
Rancho 44044's in the front and Wild Horses 3.5" EB coils in the rear. The flex is very even front and rear and my rig is very stable. The 44044's though are a year old and beginning to get TOO soft for my heavy Scout. When I push up against a rock 4' or so tall, it'll bend the main leaf in the rear. I just put clamps on them and am getting spares before I go out on my next trip. I put a u-bolt clamp on one side my last run out and it kept things in place so I think I'll be fine.
I use rear Travelall springs with a Ford Ranger add-a-leaf in the front of my SII and have 4" Triangle springs in the rear with two leafs taken out. This is setup with a SOA.
I ran 4" Superlift springs front and rear which seemed to work well with the weight and dana 60's sprung over for awhile but still had a few problems breaking main leaves. Now running 4" F-150 lift coils up front and 2" F-150 lift coils in the rear and all seems well. Runing Rockwells now, though.
well i just ditched the skyjacker softrides and ordered up some 44044s for version 2 of the suspension..I ordered up some RE S-flex bearings in plans of using lifted zj coils out back with a 3link..but am beginning to consider 63" chevs in the rear with RE jointed shackles..the main reason I'm thinking about doing the chevs is I have seen it discussed allot here but never seen it done. I've got allot of friends running chevs on yotas and they seem to work out very well...
Are they stock hight 63's or is a lift type spring a guy can but new? I'm thinking of hanging them in the front of my new 80 project. Would they support a 4cyl scout front end?
My 44044's have been holding up my 392 for over 2 years now just fine.
I like them, they are Reverse Shackle though... so I don't have the spring bending issue. I also left all the clamps on them... heard to many storys of Toy guys busting them after they took the clamps off.
I do need to build a anti-wrap bar though.... its on the list of things to do with the new front end. Shock placement may have something to do with it. I need to get stiffer front shocks as well.... some day.
mine is sitting on the original springs at the moment, until i pull it back out to work on it again. I have some rear springs from an 81 f250 that measure 57" and i'm contemplating running those in the front with 62 or 63" ones in the rear. anyone else think the 57's will be alright? I haven't measured to see where the center pin will end up yet, but it will be shackle reversed and all that stuff.

leaf springs are consumables for rock crawling. I too have the 44044s up front and they are a damn fine spring and I am happy with them, but after three years I finally bent one.
With the weight of a 345 they sit just shy of flat, right where I want them. If you are looking for lift look elsewhere, but it is a good spring none the less
As you can see in the photo the spings flex quite well and the ride is softer than stock. I've owned a few sets of Rancho springs over the years and agree that the older ones rode pretty stiff. All I can say is Rancho must have reworked the 820's & 825's. Here's your :flipoff2: back at ya.
I have chevy 52" up front and 56" in the rear. The chevy springs might lift it a little, if any depending on how you mount them. Side by side they have about the same arch as the stock Scout springs. The rears were close enough in length to stock that I was able to just modify the existing mounts. I chose to stretch the frame to accomodate the longer springs up front. I wouldnt go any longer because they do stick out pretty good.
you got a tape measure?? Go see if they will work for you.
There is no magical rule for swapping non-scout springs into a Scout. Couple people have run a couple different things, and most of them seem to work OK. If your trying something "new" you won't know till you try it.
Before my 44044's I tried a drifferent spring, built the mounts and set the weight on them and didn't like them, so I reworked it. So be it straying from the "known" path.
The pin isnt centered in the 52s, I believe it is offset an inch or two.
I bet the 2wd springs are the same as the 4wd springs. I know the 2wd trucks use different spring mounts that are shorter.
