Hummer wheels

Anybody running hummer wheels? Like/don't like? Any impressions at all? I know they have more backspacing and was wondering how or if it is enough to really matter. Thanks

Pretty good plan for full width axles and keeping the tires under the truck. I do run the PVC inserts from 66CJdean. Tryed 5psi and some power slides and the tires will not come off the rim.

how much do these wheels usually cost? and how much would it cost to recenter the wheel to 3 or 4 in backspacing?

The guy I know made a bulk purchase and is down to the last five. He is asking $20 a rim, so I was trying to get some info on them, cause it seemed like a great price. Gotta start some where on a 1 ton conversion.

I boutght mine off ebay with the 36x12.50 millitary oz's. I ended up paying 420$ including shipping. Which I dont think is that bad for 4 tires with 75% tread.

The only problem your going to run into is getting the wheel to clear the steering. Ive heard of guys running an offset steering arm, or you could run a drw d60 front, or run wheel spacers which is what I did.

I used 1.5 inch spacers on my 10 bolt front. I didnt use the offset arm because I needed to run a spacer under my steering arm to clear my spring pack. If your running a 60 that wouldnt be a problem.

I love them. Had them on Snoopy and it was nice not even thinking about them. I got Rusty's set of 5 for $250. The only problem is that I like to bead-blast and powdercoat them. Costs a little, but they come out sweet.

The only problem is the 7" of BS. You'll need at least 2" spacers to clear normal brakes. But even with full width axles, 2" spacers and such, they still bring the tires back under the rig.

REally? SWEET! The D60 needs 2" spacers to clear the bigger brakes.

Now that I know that I"m thinking again....never a good sign.

yeah but, whats the point of going full widths if you dont go full width the more the tires stick out the better right i know that the 7 inBS is going to be a problem, how much would it run to have them recentered to about 2-4 in BS how much would a set of 44 in super swampers stick out??

and is there only one size? 16.5 X ?? whats the width? and how wide of a tire can you put on them??

just lookin on ebay, whats this about the run flats, and the o rings??

thanks

Depends on if you do it yourself

8.25" wide. Some people measure the outter lip and say they are 8.75, but the bead sits at 8.25". I've put 14" wide tires on them a couple times. No problem. Snoopy's tires were 14.50 wide.

What's what about the run flats? Orings you can get from CJdean or $5 or so each.

Re-center $100 per rim, check the thread list above.
Or you could go through Stockton Wheel.

Your best bet would be buy some 37x12.50 rims and tires as these would be 12 bolt rims with rubber run flats. The rubber run flats are sweet

here's another thread

well what do the run flats do? they are magnesium, what is there purpose? and could you possibly run 44x18.5x16.5 super swampers on them? so basicly im lookin around $800 for wheels and recentering? are the rims billet made, or are the centers welded in? if they are welded i could probably do them myself...

Run flats have two jobs, one to lock the tire in place (beadlocks) and to also to keep the tire from getting pinch when low on air. Billet steel rims, I don't think so. You can get centers cheap from usa6x6 and weld them in your self. Oh the rubber runs flats are made of rubber

Well the ones I've seen used don't run the run flat part. It will bottom out at low presure. Bigger tire may be OK. So you can cut off the run flat part of the bead lock or buy the PVC type.

While cutting magnesiam run flats always have a camera in the back ground recording the events!

I'm going to call this myth busted. The run flats are a mag alloy, they burn like crap and take a lot of heat to ignite. I've burned chucks of run flat in a fire, nothing compared to pure mag.

You're safe cutting them with a bandsaw and even grinding on them in short sessions. I wouldn't use a torch to cut them. Just keep the dust to a minimum as the dust is easily ignited but will not stay lit without another different fuel source.

so could i put 44x18.5in super swampers on them? will the beads hold? if the rims are like anything like my cucv rims all there is a couple rivit looking things going from the center out right?? so then i could just drill those out and reweld the centers my self... saves me a lot of money... are hummer beadlocks still beadlocks with out the runflats? and which is better? rubber or magnesium?

thanks

I kept my mag run flats intact. My tire has to squish 13" to it the runflat. If I can't get a good enough footprint with that, something else it going on.

Dude SEARCH.

TONS of info on Hummer (H1) rims here on Pirate, and all the info and tech you need.

Heck, there is even a write up in the TECH reports (by Billavista) on recentering the rims, or if you look in the Vendors section there you can look at what is offered for centers and get a pretty good idea how they go in, how much the cost and how hard it is.

Since you don't have a red star, then use GOOGLE to search the PBB, just type the pirate URL in the 'advanced search' options.

It's not the squish you need to worry about, it's the thin metal ribs cutting into the sidewall of the tire, thus the reason you need to cut them down.

i will have to try to search, but no red star means shit for search!! i will try to use google... maybe
