Post Axle and tire suggestions

I need your guys input on the build-up of my Scout.
Current ride is a '75 4" triangle front, SOA rear with 33x9.50 MT's. 345, 727 (low gearset), and 3.54...open.
Since I did the lift, I haven't been anyplace that I can't get through...though I haven't really tried anything all that hard. Did the first mile of Holy Cross City twice, with no lift and stock sized tires...did kill a tired tranny, a driveshaft and a couple of cross members.

Last plan was to keep the 44's and change gears to 3.73, 33x10.50 TSL's, Detroit rear, Lockright front, RS and possibly SOA front. Probably change the t/c over to a j**p 300 at the next tranny rebuild.

Now that I have the 800 as a daily driver, and a trailer I think I want to go a little more extreme. Besides, if Tommy goes 36's....

Newest thought is 3/4 ton axles, 4.56 gears, Detroit and Lockright, j**p 300, RS, SOA front and rear, 2.5" rancho springs, 35 or 36 TSL's, high steer conversion of some design. I have Projection sitting on the shelf, so that will go in also.
I don't want to do a body lift, though I'm putting one on the racer so I might change on that also.

Anything I should add or change?

Mark

Well, that certainly isn't the first time I've heard that!
I carry about as much stuff as Tom, and like to have the room for passengers when the need arises.

A good winch would be nice, maybe even two!!One for the front and one for the rear And maybe a heavy duty bumper to carry a full size spare.

Bumpers will go in also, with receivers front and rear. They will also double as air tanks unless I can find something better to mount under the step.

nope, plan sounds good to me. Build it how you can and then go from there as you find the limitations....

o-ya, get out and play HARDER <g>

And you did a beautiful job of it, too, Mark! You made some of us with "lift, lockers, 33s" look pretty darn clumsy!

Bwahahahaha! ROFL. I didn't WANT 36s.. I wanted bigger, but I couldn't pass up the deal to step up to more manly meats..

A far cry from "33s are enough", eh?

Why the 2.5" springs? Won't that be a bit tall? Will Eyore really be retubbed, or should you just replace the important parts (body mounts) and sawzall off the rest of the cancer-ridden metal to fit the tires?

Tigger already needs most of those areas replaced, and why replace it with stock parts?...

Oh yeah.. and since EVERYONE ELSE has let me down...

I haven't decided quite yet, but Eyore's tub goes into the garage next week sometime. I figure do it once.....

Dunno if I want to cut as much out as Banshee to fit the tires. I figure the 2.5" springs and some trimming would get them to fit. You just gonna trim and stay SOA?

Yes to the retub. Eyore has whats left of the two center body mounts and a 2x6 under the driver side. I have welded angle iron between the door post and the rocker to actually have some metal touching.

I think Tigger actually has some structure under him....unlike Eyore.

That's my (current, subject to change) plan. Heck, I want to fit the 36s NOW without ANY more lift. I figure I really need to fix the tub before I do more suspension work - what fun is having a built 4x4 that you can't use during the half-of-a-year that we have our best wheelin'? (that would be winter time, for those not familiar with Montana..).

Summer is race season, and without snow, not much to really challenge the trail rig anyhow..

So doors the close and a hardtop are the priority. "While I'm in there" I hope to accomodate the 36x12.50 TSLs.

Down the road I'll do the SOA for the ground clearance and just a bit more lift.

I'm thinking XLC + RS up front (to avoid breaking springs), and using the "4 inch" Skyjackers in the rear.

The RS *WILL* have some lift to it - after using Devil's pitman arm as a bump stop, I don't see how to avoid adding lift without damaging the steering box while still being SOA.

I don't think Banshee-like tubs are a requirement. I think some smaller tubs could do the trick and still keep a rear seat - tho' maybe not SII.

If you go wider (FF 60) you won't need to inboard the wheel tubs as much. You WILL need to go up and front-to-back.

Did you see Scoutillac's tubs? Trapezoid shaped diamond plate. Nice flat shelf top for storing things.

Hmmm.. kinda like an 800, CJ, or EB.

I've been eyeballing rear seat options.. maybe a flatfender rear seat.

True, Tigger *does* have more good metal left. Center mounts appear OK. Front mounts are shot, and the rear corner of the bed finally has a HOLE.. otherwise it's the rear wheel arch lips n' the hardtop mounting area on the passenger quarter that need help, rust-wise.

The rest of Tigger is a direct result of my inability to drive!

Or maybe it's my ability to drive beyond the capabilities of the vehicle?
