I was hoping you binder guys could give me a little advise. I was offered a 1969 scout for $80.00. I haven't seen it yet, I am going to take a look at it next weekend. The body is strait a little rust, 304 motor, it ran when it was parked a few years ago, I was told it has a warn overdrive in it.
The catch is that it doe's not have a title. Here in washington it is a major pain in the but to go through the process of getting a title and after you jump through the hoops you still have to what three years till the state will issue you a title. So would it be worth dealing with the B.S.? Does any one make a lift for a 69 scout? How big of tires will the stock axles hold up to? Thank you for your time.

If you pass on it, I may be interested in it for $80.
Stock axles on an 800 are probably OK to 33's. A good, fairly easy and cheap upgrade would be some Scout II Dana 44's, or '74-'79 Wagoneer Dana 44's. Then you'd be OK to 35/36's. The only lift I know of is a 2.5" lift from Mr. Scout. Early CJ5 springs will bolt in, but they give about 1/2 the advertised lift because the scout is much heavier than a CJ5. Spring over will give you 5" of lift, for not too much money if you are good at fabrication and can do it yourself. |

I went through that when i was in Pasco Wa. I bought an old Dodge truck for $50 then traced down the registered owner and talked to him. he was willing to sign the truck over as long as it didnt cost him anything. I wnt to the local tag office and got an "Affidavit in lew of title" and sent it to him. he signed it and had it notorized and sent it back to me. I took it back to the tag office and had a title in about two weeks. sure beats the other way of registering it putting up a bond = to its value and waiting two years hoping nobody claims it.....

I just got off the phone with the DOL.
If you know the person it was last registered to, go into the court house with a bill of sale from whom you bought the truck and they will give you an affidavit of lost title. Have the A.L.T signed by last registered owner & notorized and you can have a title in 2 weeks. Otherwise go in with a bill of sale and VIN number and you can get tabs only for 3 years, after 3 years you can get title. The truck I am dealing with was last registered in Cal. 16 years ago. better yet the guy that i got it from (free) is in the navy, on a sub for 6 months and i never got a bill of sale from him. So i have to; get bill of sale from him.. Get letter from California DMV stating no recorded registered owner. get a WSP inspection. then I can have a title for $50 hope this helps
