Post 345 or 392?

hey I am in search of a motor for my tow rig and today i found what looks to be an early or mid 70's travelall. does anyone know what this vehicle is powered by, or are there ways of telling the difference without pulling the intake?

While I was putting my new intake on my 345 I noticed a small piece of metal used to hold the throttle return spring in place. When I cleaned it off it was stamped with the number 345. This would be the easiest way to tell.

However this would also be an easily swapped part.

70s T'all would be a 258-I6, or an IH SV8 (304/345/392) or an AMC 401 (IH called it a "400").

You can look on the engine ID pad to find out what CID an IH SV engine is. Just scrape the grime away with a knife, rag, and BraKleen and you'll know for sure.

It's located on the passenger side of the engine, just behind the fuel pump, just under the head. Nice little flat spot.
