for SOA....I'm really itching to do a SOA but I'm only putting 31's on until next summer/fall when I can afford some 35's or bigger. I'm gonna be trimming the fenders anyway so if 31's are too small for a SOA but too big for stock suspension I an just trim the fenders a little and call it good until I go ALL OUT!

Here is what mine looked like when I pulled it out of the shop after doing the soa. Has 31-10.50's on it.

That's not too bad with 31's, on a 100" WB Scout II it should like even better. But the SOA does scream for 35's at least. It's the chicken and egg debate, lift or tires what should come first.

That's not as bad as I thought it would be. My blazer with 4-6 inches of lift looked a lot worse with 33's. Maybe I'll go ahead and do that then....As time permits.
Thanks for the pic. |

Depends on how much "extra" lift you engineer in. Here's my SOA rig, with an RS, and 31" tires -

'course, I have no bump stops in the back - just up front (and they're "serious duty" front stops that used to be motor mounts for a Ford Escort - steel and poly combined.) Going up the ramp the rear tires will rub ever so slightly, too. Fronts are OK with the radiused front fenders. I think the 31s work pretty well with the SOA. I'd like to tub the rear out and make room for more tire tho' - 35s seem to soak up the bumps on the obstacle courses a lot better, so maybe I'll give 'em a whirl. I just don't want to go any taller than I have to (it's nice being able to slide a turn at 50mph w/o flopping it) So - does it look bad with only 31s? I think it starts to look uglier than usual when I put the stock steel wheels and 235/75s on...

I think they look ok with 31's but not as good as with 33's or bigger.
Here is how mine looked the week after the first pic when I found a good deal ($75) on some used 90% tread tsl's It also helped the looks when I rattle canned the grill frame and the primer spots, and got rid of those 50's cruiser looking doors.

I'm gonna wait and see what happens. Here's what's going on:
My boss (father in-law) needs to buy me a new work vehicle. He wants to get me a van.....(errr..yeah....whatever) I told him "Why don't we convert one of the vans we have now to a service van (I'm a Xerox service tech) and then get me this 1991 1-ton crew-cab chevy 4x4 p/u" he seemed to like the idea since it would save him a few G's and he have money to buy a few more vehicles that he needs for the work fleet. If this goes through I will get my D60 and have a tow vehicle (I'd just swap my 8-lug D44 for the D60 and be SET) SO if I can get this tow vehicle I will do the SOA with my 1-ton axles immediately, but if I don't I will get the 31's and just trim the fender until I can do more.
