1/4 eliptic rear susp

Looks like I have the major parts for a rock buggy. Want to build something like Jeepdude_Jay's rig. Just a little lost on the 1/4 eliptic set up. Anybody know where I can get the scoop on this? Any info would help.

Jeepdude_Jay has a flatfender jeep. If thats what you want to build why are you posting it in IH talk? <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

For info on 1/4 elliptic suspension go to General 4x4 and do a search for 1/4 elliptic and 4-link.

You can buy the kit lance got from the SNORT guys I think... You tell them the specs of your rig and they make it from there... If all you want is design ideas or some theory classes they will more than likely help there too. They have a BB of some sort. I am in the same boat as you scoutzilla. I want to learn about 4x4 4 links but there are no books and people here assume you are a triple PHD in math/physics or something. No one wants to take the time to teach basics. Not bitching or anything I wouldnt want to either... <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Ben and a few others posted the pictures of CAINES Scout buggy. I simply replied with some specs on it. If you want to see my "rock buggy" hehe, here you go. I know the IH guys will love this on their board.

I'm in the planning learning stage also. I did find a pretty nice site that one of those jeep dudes (Mike Knorr) put together. Nice of him to share his set up with the world. You have to click down into it a little but some good info there. here's the link

Scouts come stock with many of the parts you guys consider jeep parts. Apparently, some even have chrome and stickers and stuff. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I don't think the AMC 20 can hold the weight of a Scout, without forming a taco. Maybe a panzy Heep, but not anything with a real drive train. <IMG SRC="smilies/thefinger.gif" border="0">

Truss it enough, I bet it will. A friend ran 35" Boggers on his CJ7 with a trussed '30 front and AMC20 rear with no problems <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

Let's not forget that the Scout 80s came with Dana 27s front/rear. What did Jay's Flatfender come with??

I've also got to post the pictures for our Project 3 (the whole rear end has our CAD designed 4-link system that was designed for Scouts only).

OK OK. I've ditched the wimpy axles, just like the serious 80 series owners would. But the are still Jeep axles, just stolen from a bigger Jeep.

I was just pointing out we've had weak axles, too - just that IH learned better and put '44s under, while Jeep just didn't understand. <IMG SRC="smilies/thefinger.gif" border="0">

Y'know, you're starting to sound like Mark Wade now.. "It's still a Jeep - it was Waggie axles.. and a 401.. and.."

One of my Scouts sports a Travelall rear axle. Couldn't find any full width disc IH fronts at the time tho, so that's a Chebby.

It's pretty sad, but most of the time I enjoy the IH board more than the Jeep board. This is a more consistent and down to earth bunch of people. Thanks guys.

Damian - do you have a side view of the links at ride height? Are the lower links parallel to the frame, or to they angle out to the axle? What size rod ends are you using on the links?
