Need hepl with my dd "Jetta"

I know this is a 4x4 site and I may have posted this in the wrong area but I need advise bad. without my dd my project gets sidelined and I have to drive it. Its a 95 VW Jetta III celebration. Not all the time but quite often and with no rime or reason it will have a rough idle and rev out at 2000 and not trough a single code. Its so bad that its not drivable. To limp it home I must gun and dump it and it can't be good and I can barely make it up to 50 mph. Any help any one can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm tearing up my 36s!

those cars are pretty simple however there are lots of reasons it might me ideling rough.first thing i would check is the isv (idle stabilizer valve) its a round alluminum piece with wiring attatched.its located in the intake manifold.take it off and spray it out with carb or brake cleaner.i would also clean the maf with a specalized maf cleaner vws are very picky with those two parts
