The Islamabad Jeep Club Thread!

Greetings from Islamabad, Pakistan! I just wanted to start a thread to introduce and highlight the past and present activities and antics of my club to fellow Pirate4x4 members!

The Islamabad Jeep Club (or IJC) is a group of 4x4 enthusiasts who since 1992 have been promoting offroading as a motor sport in Pakistan. IJC participates in and organizes various off-road events including expeditions, rock crawling, mud and desert rallies. IJC is also actively involved in various social causes including relief work, disaster management and road and offroad safety awareness.

It is a pleasure and honor to be able to share our experiences with the broad international membership of Pirate4x4! On behalf of all members, I thank you for your interest and welcome your feedback and comments!

Thanks and Regards,
Suhaib Kiani

PS: Our web address is www.ijc.com.pk and we also keep our small forum going with regular updates http://www.ijc.com.pk/forum/

Where's the Concordia pictures?

The 4405 "land-use" Ultra4 KOH team is proud to have many friends and a "sister rig" in Pakistan. There are many things in the works with that partnership.

Pakistani and American off road enthusiasts connect despite cultural differences
4x4 groups from opposite sides of the globe inspire each other to further important causes

While the Pakistan and American governments are currently at odds over recent events in Pakistan, off road enthusiasts from both countries are working together in harmony.

Through the largest 4x4 website in the world, Pirate4x4.com, Dr. Ehsan Kiani of the Islamabad Jeep Club in Pakistan began following the work of the 4405 “Land-use” off road race team (www.ovrocksports.com) which competes in races such as the famed King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley California. (www.ultra4racing.com) The 4405 “land-use” team’s mission is to not just race, but to preach responsible off road recreation and volunteerism to ensure continued motorized access on public lands. In order to raise awareness of environmental and land-use issues, the 4405 race vehicle is also often seen on display at businesses, events, schools and 4x4 trail cleanups and work parties.

In May of 2010, the 4405 race car was completely lost in a structure fire. Due to the importance of the land-use team’s mission, companies and individuals began donating parts and funds to rebuild the car. In an effort to be a part of the rebuild, Dr. Kiani donated hand stamped, metal 4405 plates that have been welded onto the new vehicle. A lost art in the United States, hand stamping metal is still practiced in Pakistan.

In August of 2010, Pakistan was ravaged by floods, claiming 1,200 lives, wiping out entire villages and forcing nearly 2 million Pakistanis to flee their homes. Not only has the Islamabad Jeep Club been involved with relief efforts, inspired by the 4405 land-use team’s efforts in the United States, Dr. Kiani and his brother Suhaib began building an off road vehicle to raise awareness of the issue and the work being done by the club in the Swat Valley in Northern Pakistan. Dubbed the “Concordia Relief Racer”, the vehicle will be used in much the same way as its sister vehicle the 4405, but for a different cause on the other side of the planet.

Dr. Kiani says "We got tremendous support from all around for the Flood Relief Initiative started by the Islamabad Jeep Club. When the massive floods hit Pakistan, Suhaib and I were in the middle of building a 4x4 vehicle (named Concordia) for use in off road rallies. Inspired by the 4405 we decided to use the Concordia to raise awareness about the relief work. I am positive that the partnership between the 4405 and Concordia will go a long way."
According to Kurt Schneider of the 4405 “Land-use” team, “We are ecstatic that our team’s efforts are recognized by a 4x4 club from across the globe, and honored to know that we have become the inspiration for the Concordia relief racer. Despite different ideologies and cultures, we are bound by a common love of off roading and vehicle fabrication. I think many Americans would be surprised that Pakistanis build 4x4’s, head up to the mountains, then four wheel and camp much like we do here in the United States.”
In addition to this partnership, the 4405 team and Team Concordia are currently working on several projects to exchange fabrication skills and knowledge between Pakistani and American 4x4 enthusiasts.

The 4405-Concordia Partnership...

You beat me to it Kurt. I was saving the best for the last!

As highlighted in the press release above, the 4405 Land Use Buggy was our inspiration in launching IJC's go-fast FJ40 Project Concordia as a Relief Racer to raise awareness about IJC's ongoing flood relief activities in Pakistan's Northern region of Swat. Thanks to the efforts and work done by Kurt and Ehsan Kiani, the initiative materialized into a partnership with the 4405 and Concordia being named as sister rigs. We are very proud and honored as IJC members and Team Concordia for our humble FJ40 Concordia rig to be partners with the state-of-the-art Land Use Buggy, and sincerely hope and pray that this initiative goes a long way in furthering both the noble causes which the teams are working for.

Details of the Concordia Relief Racer initiative and IJC's Flood Relief activities can be found on the following page (some highlights reproduced below) : http://www.ijc.com.pk/forum/viewtopi...ef+racer#p4004

A full build thread for the FJ40 Concordia Relief Racer (summary specs given below) can be found on the IJC forum which is perhaps best read in reverse to fully understand the context and progress of the project: http://www.ijc.com.pk/forum/viewtopi...=183&start=125

I was amazed by the beautiful mountains in Pakistan. It looks like you guys had a great time on the camp-out too. Now I need to add Pakistan to the places I need to visit!

Thanks again for posting,

Thanks for your wonderful comments! Yes we had a wonderful Summer Camp last year, although it turned out to be a hell of a lot of driving for 5 or 6 days! We crossed three high mountain passes:

Lowari Top (10500 feet)....

Shandur Top (12300 feet).....

and Butogah Top (14100 feet).

At one point, by the Indus River we were supposedly at the junction of three major mountain ranges: the Himalayas, Korakorum and the Hindu Kush:

The main road we were on for sometime was the Korakorum Highway (or the KKH) which winds along the Indus River and heads on to China. The road was however blocked some 100kms from the border owing to a major landslide:

I am ashamed to say I hadn't seen this thread until now.

Breathtaking pictures, and the mix of different rigs is awesome!

Gentlemen of the Islamabad Jeep Club:

Every time a thread appears on Pirate 4x4 from your crew, eventually people start asking for IJC stickers.

Now, I am well aware that sticker material, ink, and the printer's fees don't just grow on trees.

I wonder if it might be possible for the IJC to offer 'international' or 'honorary' memberships? Say that some admirer and kindred spirit half a world away sends 40.00 US dollars through paypal and gets a t-shirt or some form of apparel if the club has them, and a handful of IJC stickers?

Just throwing the idea out there. I know I would join IMMEDIATELY if that were available. I will PM you, Suhaib and Eshan as well.

I hope you are all in prosperity and good health.
