Diesel trooper ?'s

What tranny/case came behind the C223T? If it's the MUA5, will the 3:1's work in it?
Anyone got any baseline hp/lb-ft and mpg numbers? How long do they last (as in is it typical to see these w/ 400k on them)? Personal experiences/thoughts? I know they have the shitty 8/10 bolt combo.

AirTrooper hows yours doing?

Paul

unique

The C223T had it's very own 5 speed with integral side mounted transfer case. I'll look it up when i get home. I have confirmed this with Jerry LeMond.

It is a unique bolt pattern, and no other transmission may/can be used. Lamentations aplenty...

C223T

Jerry LeMond drove mine this summer and said it had a lot of power for a C223T.

The C223T is pretty low on torque. 80hp and 127 ft. lbs of torque.

I have had my injectors cleaned/tuned. injection pump rebuilt and tuned. Air trooper is a lot ligher, and I have removed the pop off valve. It now makes 15lbs of boost.

I still have not incorporated the Saab intercooler yet. busy putting in a Dana 44 front right now.

I will also use a 20% mix of kerosene with the diesel.

That should give me plenty of power.

Still though, the 2.8, 3.1 , 3.0 diesels would have been much better. England has the 3.1s. those have to be sweet.

You can get the MUA5 xfer case, put it behind the C223T tranny as a divorced case, and remove the scab xfercase and plate over it. Jerry LeMond was showing me that. The Mua5 xfer case would be about $350. but the rear drive shaft would be very short. would have to have a double cardan (cv) rear drive shaft at that angle. but then you could use tera lows. I will do this when/if we jerk out the xfer case using this Dana44 and 36" swampers.

Wild trooper

If I were to build a gas trooper again it would be a long wheelbase 2 door. Heck the Jeep rebuilders at SunRay Engineering in Weatherford Texas add about a foot of frame to the Wranglers. guess it makes a better rock crawler with those 40" tires that way.

I would seriously consider a turbo400 or 727 torqueflite, manual control valve body and .... 472 OR 500 CID cadillac, 1968 with throttle body injection. KILLER 550 ftlbs of torque.
AND OF course Mongo xfer case.

5:89 gears! top speed 60mph target

Dana 60 front + Ford 9" rear.

40" swampers

(my next rig.....hehe)

yeah that sounds sweet. won't be happening for me for a few more years, but i can still dream up stuff. I dig the LWB 2 doors. They just have the bastard mix of stock components. I'd rock some of the new 39" IROK's on fullwidths, chopped up w/ a cage (much like yours) and nasty diesel power. The new isuzu diesels are putting out rediculous numbers. not just hp and tq, but low emissions, etc.

But the ultimate new diesel (aside from the ass-kicking new dodge one) is the turbo v10 touareg. puts out 315 hp. don't have the torque numbers, but they're probably up there too.

probably fairly light too, considering it's in a vw.
