toyota T-case in an Isuzu
Hey guys, just doing a little research here. I put a Geo Tracker engine and automatic transmission in my Samurai. While researching this, I learned that the Isuzu 4L30E is based off of the Trackers 3L30 (3-speed) transmission. So I am thinking that I can use a 2.8 Isuzu engine and mate it to the Tracker transmission using an Isuzu bellhousing. How is this engine? Is it the same as a Chevy 2.8? Any other engines use the 4L30E transmission? Also, this may interest you guys. I am not sure what you guys have for options for T-case gears, but the transmissions also appear to share the same tail housing. If this is so, there is an adapter to mount a Toyota T-case to a Tracker transmission that could be used on this transmission. There is also an adapter to install a Toyota T-case to a Tracker T-case (which you could bolt to a Isuzu transmission) giving you a dual T-case set-up. Just something to think about.

Interesting .... Unless you already have a 2.8L 60* v6. I would suggest a 3.4L 60* v6, same bolt pattern and basic block, more power about same cost. Isuzu puts the starter on the left side vs GM rear drive on the right side.
Do you have link or more info about the adapter to mount a Toyota T-case to a Tracker 3L30 transmission and Toyota T-case to a Tracker T-case adapter? OK .... OK I know I should click the search button

here is the link for the toyota to tracker case. It is shown with the 5 speed but also works with the auto. There is not much info in the tracker-to- toyota case adapter (click on 'kicker 4'), its a new item but you could call these guys. I bet they wont know anything about adapting it to an Isuzu, I dont think its been done before. If you do a search on the samurai board for 'kicker 2' you car hear what they have to say about it. On the stock set-up, there is an adapter, about 1" thick, between the transmission and the T-case, you would need this from the tracker auto, it should bolt to your Isuzu transmission, then that would allow you to use the tracker or toyota T-case. I forgot to mention in my last post that if you used a tracker T-case, the adapter these guys sell allows you to mount the toyota T-case to it. That price includes modifing the tracker case to get rid of the front output. I am sure it would work, the only question is if the output shaft of the transmissions are the same. If anyone has a 4L30 with the T-case removed and can get a spline count and length that it sticks out, I can do the same with my 3L30

" I learned that the Isuzu 4L30E is based off of the Trackers 3L30 (3-speed) transmission" the 4L30e is the auto that came in the Rodeo - 93-97 mated to a 3.2L SOHC or DOHC motor......this was never mated to a 2.8L w/ 60 degree bellhousing the 4L30e is a GM trans...............since GM owns stake in Isuzu as well as Geo i would assume your trans is a GM as well. the Isuzu 2.8L v-6's came w/ a MUA5 isuzu 5-speed or an Aisin Warner auto (shared w/ toyota in some applications) the trans/case combos are integratedand share a gear there are no removable bell housings on and isuzu trans to the best of my knowledge still VERY VERY curious about all this so lets see some more facts on this........................ hope this info helps a bit

How can i find out what tranny is in my 90 a/t v6 trooper? I am very interested in this. I've had this beauty of a Trooper sitting in my driveway for a year now. If I could get it to go really slow without changing the entire drivetrain I would know why I kept it for so long.

I believe some Cadilliac V8s also share the GM60* pattern. Hmmm... On one listing I saw that the 3L30 and 4L30 tail housing gasket had different part numbers (they were off by 1 number) but they looked the same in my 4L30 overhaul manual. I have to look into that more.

Nope, all 4L30e's used the GM 60 deg pattern. The 3.2 has a dual pattern block. One pattern for the manuals and a 2nd GM 60 deg pattern for the 4L30e. --Dan

still researching. I am at a dead end until I can get my hands on a transmission or someone here has one. I have a 3L30 tailhousing gasket I would like match to a 4L30 tailhousing to see if the tracker dual T-case will bolt onto the 4L30. I cant seem to get ahold of a 4L30 gasket unless I buy the whole kit. Nobody has a junk 4L30 laying around??

I looked on the members list, there is no 'highhonda' listed, is it spelt different? I have the Tracker tail housing gasket I could send him to see if it matches the 4L30 trans, if it does, we are one step closer...

tranny 4l30e
well,
after pulling the old 4l30e out of the shed tonight. and with the gasket randy (samiguy) send. drum roll.......... it fits!!!!!! ![]() except for one mounting holes is off, but looking at the gasket there must be something to tap into on the other side because the gasket material i still available there. (see pic) in the pic, i bubbled the spot where the hole is on the 4l30e. randy, the output shaft is 27 spline and the shaft dia. is 1" 3/16th wide. again see pic. i am sending the bellhousing to you on monday, the gasket is in the top of the box. do you want me to send you the backing plate to the 4l30e for comparision? let me know. ok start asking questions. i am thinking as is randy right about now that this opens the box for options for the t-case options for us isuzu guys. randy e-mail me at: highonda@optonline.net thanks doug
