giving a 2.6 more balls

I got my Amigo today and driving it home i noticed it was....ummmm how do you 4 banger owners call it......... peppy? ya it was peppy But it lacks some. (driving a V8 jeep and then this doesnt help)
I was going to get rid of the stock air box and run some bling/ricer style intake with a K&N filter. also it needs replacement from the cat back.

so what i am looking for is what have you done to your 4 banger to get more power.

searching online for Amigo performance parts has lead me to TONS of "Euro" taillights so if ya need a set i can send you a link.
The exhaust will have to be done this week, i was thinking just have the shop bend up some 2 1/4 fom the cat back to a flowmaster unless someone knows of a "bolt on" set.
also who makes smog legal headers.

So tell me where to spend some cash

Cal Mini in Bakersfield, CA makes non-CA certified headers. They have the inlet for the O2 sensor..... Calmini

I dont think the air box/inlet is a restriction to power. It is located up high and dry

why waste money on a flowmaster? get something with a straight thru design.

delta and a few other companies make cams, too. pacesetter and calmini make a header also.

i ran a jacobs ignition on my 2.8 and got good results, dont see why it wouldnt help the 2.6

Mods to date:

-K&N drop in filter
-AMC head: ported, polished, and gasket matched
-block rehoned and decked 10thou to make everything nice and level and (possibly) up compression a bit
-cam reground by Delta w/ their low-end torque grind
-custom 2.25" exhaust sytem that looks pretty much like Dan's here
-NGK plugs w/ 8mm wires
-ignition timing advanced a few degrees
-other little things I am probably forgetting

[disclaimer]While all of this stuff made a very noticible improvement, it will also be expensive to have done. I was having my engine rebuilt anyway, so I could justify the cost. If you want to keep it simple and as cheap as possible, IMHO the best gains can be had from ditching the jungle-gym exhaust, adding an aftermarket cam and air filter. YMMV

most of the stuff you listed i am gonna wait till i abuse the engine a little more or find a spare.
I still can believe this is a 10yo vehicle with less than 50k miles
Looked at that exhaust today and WHAT THE HELL WERE ISUZU DESIGNERS SMOKING !!!!!! there is more than enuf space to run a high flow cat and muffler just like the link you posted but instead they did that shat.
any clue why??
correct me if i am wrong, putting a 2 1/4 pipe to an aftermarket cat-short pipe- muffler- over axle-out back shouldnt raise any concerns in the passing immision/inspection problems?(all my other vehicles are pre-smog)

OK, I know nothing of the car, or what is out there,

but I would recommend.

As far as tune up goes just go to the dealer get a factory tune up kit, (plugs, wires and such. and dont worry about it for another 100,000 miles. as far as Toyotas go I wouldnt use anyhting else
and you arent going to get anything else out of it by wasting your money. Most Jap cars are designed to go 100,000 miles prior to tune-up.

As far as exhaust goes go to Summit.
I got a Dynomax super turbo style for my Toy. pick the size and sides you want the ins and outs. $35bucks cant beat it. Good sound, nice flow and it will open it up without breaking bank.
I just went to Pepboys there and got some 90's and such and fabbed it my self, or you could go to a shop and bend it up too.
I am cheap, And knowing you.......................................:flipoff 2:

most decent shops can bend you a system for less than a hundred. mine was 85 on my old troop and it was 2.5". dunno if its the same under there, but for mine it was only a few bends.

for me it was .040 pistons, calmini header, catco high flo converter, magnaflow muffler and all 2.5" from the header to the tail pipe

also advance the timing to about 13 or 14 degrees instead of the factory 12

custom k&n filtration system
shaved cylider head
new valves
reindexed the cam pully
many new parts from dealer
I don't have the bottom end power that I wished I did, but it really opens up at higher rpms
ngk plugs
centerforce dual friction clutch (a MUST HAVE) it's SWEET

I once raced a guy with a souped up chubby 350 and won

all this in an 89 pickup

although I still have a problem with idling between cold and normal operating temp. It idles fine at cold and at 185-190 deg.
anyone with suggestions

Cool

I have a 2.6 in Joe Isuzu and all I've done so far is a header with a glass pack and a turn doun and it has helped a great deal.

well i forgot to update:
got rid of the stupid exaghst system from the down pipe back(WTF was isuzu thinking??) and ran a 2 1/4 cat from summit, one of thier "turbo" mufflers and some pre-bent pipes from Auto Zone.
$100ish and welded it all in a afternoon, even went and used some of the stock hanger points
Noticable power gain, better tone. is real quiet at idle and is a nice deep note when you step on it

NGK plugs, some 8mm wires i re-cut to fit. better idle,no noticeable power gain.

now for the gheto-fab cold air intake
being as i couldnt find dick for a new airbox/intake for a first gen Amigo and none of the bling-ricer shit would work modified i wend to Lowes and got me some PVC
3inch white PVC for all tube. a 3in to 2in adapter plugs directly into the rubber flex off the throttle body, some tube, a 45 degree bend, some more tube, and the rubber on the MA sensor clamps right down on the 3in PVC. i cut out the airbox mounting flange and sanded it a little bigger of an opening and use a drain flange that fit the inside diameter of my blingricerwanabeK&N air filter.
drilled and sealed barbed fittings in the tube for the 3 vacume things that plug in.
made a support backet, and then finaly split some 4inch aluminum flex ducting and zip tied it around the entire liength to act as a heat shield just in case

well that and it looks better that white PVC with purple glued seams

the filter sits exactly where the old airbox was , and i could very easily snorkle the entire system by just taking the filter off.

I will post pics so you can laugh later

don't know if it was just me, but when my flex pipe was removed from my old amigo, it caused a 1/4" gap between the header and down pipe; something to watch for.

oops forgot to metion that i replaces the flexi pipe with a new 2 1/4 one from JC Whitney.
and i encluded a bit of extra pipe between the adapter to the stock pipe so when i find a header for cheap i can just cut and weld it right in place

overall view of my cheap ass improvement in airflow/vacume leaks it is fawking cold out so i wasnt going to take off the aluminum "heat shield" the stock rubber for the throttle body were retained

::edit:: sorry there is a 3in to 3in rubber union for PVC between the PVC and the mass air sensor. it clamps down perfect even if it seems too big

here is a close up of what i was saying with the stock flange to the MAS. i cut off the excess on the PVC part and saned the hole in the platic flange till it slid threw. the MAS seals nicely against it.

I can run a "U" with a rubber grommet when i want to snorkle it.

you could, but you'd have to put a red racing stripe on it and some red cupholders and paint your a/c vents too

then youd have the pimp ride
