now that i will be getting a hold of a new third member this week i was wondering if there was anything tricky to replacing an isuzu 10 bolt 3rd. I've got all the manuals and pics from All Data on how to take it out, I am wondering if there is something to look out for while doing the swap. I'm swaping my 3rd with 4.10's with a 3rd with 4.56's and welded gears. thanks isuzu fans

Nothing really special to note, drain diff, pull wheels, brakes, axle shafts, and driveshaft; unbolt old 3rd member and take it out (may take some prying); clean up mounting surface of the pumpkin and new 3rd really well and apply some RTV gasket maker; drop new 3rd in, reassemble and fill diff back up.________ LovelyWendie99 Last edited by Indyguy; 04-26-2011 at 07:45 PM. |

I assume this is for a front 10-bolt? If so, the process sucks, as you have to pull pretty much damn near everything from the front drive train to get the third member out.
That, and it would be time to go and get a good couple dozen CV shafts, because with a welded front, that is what is going to break on a pretty regular basis. Michael |

definately send a pair of cvs off to get smurfed if you're gonna be welded. i also sincerely hope that you got manual hubs.
also make sure to use a lot of penetrating lube. when i took mine out, the swaybar bushings were toast, too.

Has anyone had their Isuzu turds polished yet?
Once the weather is more agreeable I need to swap my front 3rd for one I got with a limited-slip. I've got a few other issues up front to take care of too. Since I'll be pulling it all apart I might as well get this done during the down time. |

swaping out a rear third is vary easy. As far as fronts, on my LUV it wouldnt look too hard either. I dropped the front axle during my front end rebuild and it took my dad and i about an hour. As far as the smurfing goes i still dont realy get it. I guess ill read some more...
