rodeo 44 gears to waggy Q

sorry fellas x-post from gen 4x4.

Quote:
My roomate has recently aquired an isuzu (r) and a waggy (f) set of 44s.

He wants to match the 4.30s in the suzu in the front. They run a thick gear on a low numeric carrier.

he searched here, but could not find the answer to:

Will thick isuzu 44 gears fit another 44?

He's looking for a cheap way into decent gears by buying another isuzu 44 for gears, spare shafts/brakes.

Worried 'cause the shafts are big, necked down to 30spl.

It's $300+ for just gears and he can get into the gears and spares for ~$250.

Will they do it for him?
just gears wanted too if they work for him...

thanks fellas.

If he gets a carrier (be it open, LSD, or locker) for the Waggy axle that would usually go with numerically low gears, he should be able to run the Isuzu 4.30's on that. The only difference in Zu gears is that they have a numerically higher ratio, but the thickness of a numerically lower D44 gearset. I'm no D44 expert by any means, but I believe the cut-off point is 3.73's

Oh, and JMHO...... but I would encourage him to check into the cost of replacement gears. Never done a price comparison myself, but I would imagine the Zu gears are pretty spendy compared to regular D44 stuff. Since he's probably looking at buying a new carrier anyway (locker), it may be a better investment to just stick with standard D44 stuff.

you already have the correct open carrier in that waggy 44 since they come w/ 3.07's or 3.42's

all he needs to do is drop the ing and pinion in there. Only snag i see is that there coold be some minimal differences in the pinion bearings....but as long as the axle is say ------ '93-96 he should be fine.

you could then drop a Lockright or similar lunchbox locker in..........and Indyguy is correct, on the same line of thinking.............if you want a full carier locker.......you will just need to get the low ratio one even though you have a 4.10

You will just have to get regular D44 5.13's and the standard higher-ratio carrier to put them on. Isuzu never offered 5.13's, but this combination can be used together in the Zu D44.

I assume you are looking for gears for the Isuzu D44, but just to make sure, what axle are you inquiring about?
