Project SBC *new pics*

Well the swap has started. The motor and tranny are out, as are the front CV's/diff. I left the a-arms and outers on so I can keep the front wheels on til I get everything done except the front axle. First order of business next weekend is fitting the 283/465/205 combo... The 283 will be running on propane, so I also have to find and fit a tank somewhere... I have everthing else, just need a newish tank now. I've also decided to stick with leafs for the SAS just to keep the down-time of my rig to a minimum. I'll be using the stock rear trooper springs up front, and a set of 2003 F150 spring in the rear(56" long) This will move the rear axle back ~2 1/2 " and I'll also be moving the front axle forward. Once the motor etc is in and the springs are in up front and rear, I'm going to see if I can do the front SUA without major steering link/ oilpan clearance probs then match with SOA in the rear... I want to keep as low as possible and will trimm as much as needed to fit the 37"s I'll be getting this month. After the driveline is done and it runs/drives, the next step is chopping off the rear roof area and bringing it to Camrock for the exo... I have way too much shit to do now... I gotta get some help I think!!!!

Anyone want to come to Canada to help???

Just a quick update... Motor is in, mounts are made and welded up, and tranny is bolted up. I had to chop the shifter hole farther forward 4", and cut off the bottom of the heater box, but it all went in slick. I ended up using the stock trooper engine mounts. Raised them up 1 14", then made a plate that bolts to the chev block in the stock chev mount holes, and extends back to the stock troop mounts. I forgot my digi at home, but I'll be pulling everything out again for clean-up and paint, so I'll get some pics then. Ive got lots of room for the HEI dist. but room for the rad is at a premium. I'll be mounting it right behind the grill like Matt did, and run hood pins.
Matt, if I for get to call you, give me a ring at the shop... 604 855-9666

Ya Matt, your website project pics havent been updated in a while... None of those "I've been moving..." excuses or "I've been way to busy at the shop" please hehehe JK. I keep forgetting the Digi at home and I cant post pics of a greasy 283 and leaky 465, not to mention the shit-hole mess of left over wires and vaccuum hoses(WTF was Isuzu thinking? ) that I havent stripped from the engine comp.

once its all cleaned up and pic worthy, I'll be a post whore for a bit so dont worry... they will be along shortly

I'm serious about protection for the radiator.

I've had 1" rocks crack the windshield.
What would it do to an aluminum radiator ?

OhShit, I said that outloud

Gracias

Engine looks small in the hole

Mount design. It'll get trimmed and beautified when I remove everything to clean and paint

I modified the shift rail in my 205 for twin stick. Ultra easy mod

Tonite I got my trans crossmember mocked up... It'll hang down ~ 2" from the bottom of the frame in the center

Its 1/2" x 6" w x 8"L plate. The motor mount bolt is onlt 1 1/4" from where the plate mounts to the motor so I dont think it'll bend... besides, I'm "chaining" down the motor with 1/2" aircraft cable so there will be less pull on the plate. AF runs the same setup in his S10 with a 400 whp motor, but with 2.5" between mount points. He races it regularly at the track with no probs after 3 yrs.

That IFS "shit" is holding my wheels on so I can roll it in and out of the shop Seriously though, I got my front spring hangers fabbed and mounted today and tomorrow I do the rear shackle hangers. I should have it sitting on the new springs, axles and 37's by next saturday.
I'm only moving the axle 2" forward, and will deal with any rubbing issues with a BFH and/or torch and welder. my rear axle will be back 2" also for a 108" WB.

Does anyone have pics of how they did spring perches on the waggy diff housing?(pass side) My axle was SUA and I need to go SOA, but am a little iffy of just welding to the cast housing... I heard it aint so strong doing that.

I still havent found a propane tank to fit between the framerails where the gas tank used to be, but I'll figure something out there. I'm thinking maybe out of a Bronco or F150...

I went and saw Joel's rig on Saturday, and it is going to be top notch! Yes, Joel, it was nice to meet you too...

Joel was also nice enough to let a little bad ass from his truck rub off on mine. Feel free to keep on changing yours so I can vulture all your stuff...

Oh yeah, you remember that little leak I told you about? The new 2 row replacement radiator will be here on Wednesday. 1000 miles in 3 days turned out to be a little more than she could handle...

Nice to meet you too Jon! Too bad about the rad, I had mine sitting in the corner Did they hassle you at the border?

Zu, any time you wanna come up feel free... let me know in advance and you can crash at my house. I havent got to the rad fitment yet, hopefully in a week or 2 but I'll let you know when I get to that point.

Just did a little looking today and my twin sticks will fit perfectly in the original xfercase shifter hole. One less thing to worry about. Also my chev front driveshaft works out perfectly for length according to my measurements, so I might not have to worry about lengthening it.
