The progress of the RS buildup , pics

its an 89 RS, going yota front and rear axles, soa with stock springs, rear toys in the front. the perches on the rear toyota were about an inch wider than my springs, so we pulled the springs out a little to make it work for the time being, ghetto yes i know. the front isn't in yet though.



i've still got to fix the motor, cracked head i believe, put the front axle in, and redo the rear, oh yeah and go up about 6 more inches

Paul the wrenchs are turning daily, i'm still working on the motor, should start the front axle around the first of april.

Uzi i've been watching your progress as well, post some pics of your front hanger when you get it on. this is great, there are a handfull of axle swaps going on here

Your're gonna chop out a 220 mm (8.6-inch) ring gear to put in a Toyota 7.75-inch rear ? Is it the high $$ for the Isuzu 12-bolt ARB locker or gear ratio options ?

i would love to keep the 12bolt, that thing is freaking huge, i know cause i had to carry it acoss the shop. but theres not much aftermarket for it. only gears are 5.38 and only locker is arb and lincoln. in my last trooper i had the rear welded and it worked good but i wanted a lockrite for this trooper. as far as width its the exact same at 58in, and its an 8in, so its only a little bit smaller. theres a TON on aftermarket for toyota axle, and i can get 5.29s to match the front. my 12bolt had the 4.77s so i was able to sell those to pretty much buy my rear. i definantly dont' want to go from 4.77s with 31s to 4.56 with 35s

well after being very productive today, we got all the ifs off and ground down, and the front hanger made and welded on. but everything was going way to good so i srewed it up by not drilling the hanger holes straight. i'm a moron i know.... i'll try and post some pics when i can. hopefully this thing will be rolling soon.

did you use the sawzall for the rest? you're gonna have popeye arms pretty soon

yeah i sawzalled all of it, and my arms were killing me at the end of the day. the only thing i used was the sawzall and the grinder once it was off. oh and we used our welder/torch on the thick upper arm mount, just crank the welder up to 225 and burn right through it

i am the torch/welder expert, crank the beast up to 225 i can cut steel like a champ. anyway, i still cant belive that he drilled the hole wrong, we worked all day and it was perfect, then eric decided to make the hole 1/4" off. he must want to have the trooper make a permanent left turn .

well after the mishap with the front hanger, its fixed and now is on. hopefully tonight i can post pics of it rolling if we can get the axle hung today, heres the front hanger pic

It rolls and i think everything will work out good with were the axle is placed. is not finished but it is off jackstands and will roll again. heres the link to another board where the pics are posted.

what size box tubing are you using on the hanger? looks like 1/8inch wall??

i'm really not positive on the wall thickness, but it should be thick enough. it was also free at the machine shop down the road. weren't you working on a swap, how that going?

i would update if i had something to talk about. if i can get off my lazy butt and do something, i've just let it sit for a few weeks now, just buying parts. i've got everything in i just have to put it together. i'm about to start putting the motor together and the front axle should be fininshing up sometime.....
