WJ Jeepspeed 3700 class build.

So I have a buddy that got the itch to build a 3700 class jeepspeed out of a V8 WJ. this is gonna be a challenge for us. I build crawlers and have been wanting to go fast for a minute now. I've read the rules for both score and 3700 on the jeepspeed forum but as always input/guidance would be nice if its not constructive keep it to yourself please. First step of the build is to gut the interior as much as possible. I didn't mention it but this will be a DD as well......so we'll see how that goes. this is a full on WJ laredo leather interior the works so if your looking for interior stuff I probably got it minus the interior carpet. it will have a 4 link rear end with bypasses and C/O's a 32 gal jazz fuel cell (removable) for the CA comp crap. going to beef up the front D30 axle unless I can find a D44 to build up. possibly look into a solid beam front end as well as for the front it will have bypasses. so gutted the interior and made some templates for the frame stiffening that has to happen to support the rear suspension and the cage tie in's. I will start welding the supports on thursday or friday. i've searched my ass off for a build thread or 2 for a 3700 class but couldn't find anything. I also don't feel like belonging to another forum just yet so I chose to do this on pirate cause of the overall knowledge of the guys on this board.

Comments,

You can't run the stock v8 tcase with a beam front axle.

A 3700 car isn't going to work as a dd.

Yeah if we decide a beam front end we'll find a 2wd Trans. As far as making it a DD it will remain a DD until the final stages he wants to try and keep it street legal and there should be to much that would prevent it. Beside the windshield removal.

Having built and raced 3700 for a number of years I'll be looking forward to watching your guys progress. My dd/prerunner is a WJ, and I think its a great jeepspeed platform. The stock suspension on the WJ has actually impressed me quite a bit. with just a custom shock upgrade and 2" coil i've got 10" of front travel 12" in the rear...and it works respectably offroad as a cruiser.

T&J's has built a couple of 1700 wj's...and I believe they have been working on rear suspension brackets/links as a kit for 4 link....I haven't seen it up close but if I was starting a 3700 I'd probably look to that first.

Couple more words of advice....the stock wj frame is pretty strong as compared to an XJ/ZJ....so i'd go light on the frame plating to try and keep overall weight down.

Thanks for the input. It seems pretty solid but with a link kit I Definitly want to beef up where the link mounts will be. We've been talking with T&J a bit about the WJ and they haven't started production pieces yet so everything will be built in house. As far as the cage goes I can weld it directly to the frame or do I have to plate and bolt it through the body?

the project WJ and the fist areas that will get re enforced with 3/16th sheet metal. as for now everything will be cut and welded since I don't have a brake just yet.

so according to the best in the desert rule book I think i'm reading it wrong its states roll cage needs to be completely 2" if over 4200GVW? if the driver area is caged in with 2" A and B pillars and the pieces connecting the 2 together are all 2" can I use 1.75 for the seat belt bar and the diagonal support and door bar?

If it needs to be a DD, why 3700 class and not 1700 class? Pretty hard (impossible) to have a competitive race car be a DD. The original thought on our new 4600 Ultra4 car was to keep it street legal and be able to drive it to go wheeling now and then, but that idea went out the window quickly.

I agree 100% it won't be a DD and it can't be a 1700 class cause it has the V8. He'll figure it out in the mean Time I'm just building it cause he asked me to
