there's got to be someone who has built a custom dash.

mine is still in process, but I'm happy with how its turning out so far...

Bar welded across connecting the A-pillars at the front, bar welded across connecting the belt line bars for the bottom, sheetmetal in the middle...

bolt in sheetmetal enclosure houses the stock gages, and a welded in glove box with door on the other side. I dont need any HVAC, cigarette lighter, stereo, or anything else in my dash...

I'm planning on replacing my dash this summer, so I hope to see some more people chime in here.

Opie, I like how yours is turning out! I know you're not keeping the HVAC, but after tearing out the old dash, can you comment on how difficult it would be to keep A/C with a custom dash? I heard the stock dash itself acts as a HVAC duct in some places.

Thanks man,
Billy

Too many beers since I tore that out Billy. I dont remember. In Starboard M's buildup on NAXJA, I'm pretty sure he built a custom dash and kept some / part of the HVAC.

I also recall that CRASH built a pretty cool dash in his red XJ, dont know if I ever saw pics of it...

I like that a lot. You built it yourself I take it? Willing to do another one?

What happened to flexy92xj's? If I keep my XJ I'll likely end up putting in a custom dash, while keeping the A/C for the lady and kiddos. Any input?

Like Opie I had originally kept the stock speedo and instruments, but once I got rid of the stock gas tank and wanted better visuals as well as a place for a GPS I just dumped the stock set up. Simple and easy...

mine I did last summer:

installed, need to make a small panel to fill the hole between the switch plate and the dash.

Side panel for switches

Just some simple flat panels and a doghouse for the gauges in the middle.

I have two center console tubes running down towards the rear of the cab (MJ) that help position it all.
