Talking Winters AW4 Shifter-RADesigns upgraded

So Winters is now selling AW4 shifters. I saw that these were going to be available right after the PRI Show I was at, so I had to buy one. I always like the Winters design.
So I made a Electronic Shift Control kit for my Winters shifter. No holes to drill, just bolt on a few brackets and a couple cams on, and wire in the 3 switches and go wheel. It's designed to give me 1-4 shift control electrically while using the mechanical shifter, this will help with downshifting and compression braking. Not what I need for snow wheelin' but here in the Midwest I think it will work fine.
Still have to get out and test it but at least all the parts are done.

I modified the side name plates for a little personal touch, yes crappy pic.

Parts

All the angles

That's pretty awesome, very clean, I have a couple questions.
Are you using the "Toyota" (607-1) shifter?
How do you shift into 4th(OD)?
How much?

Yes, this is the New Winters #607-1 model they just came out with, same as the Jeep, instructions actually say, "Toyota A340 & Jeep AW4 Shifter"

When in 3 moving the shift lever from the left side to right side will shift to 4th, and of course moving it from the right side to the left side shifts to 3rd.

Sale of it will depend on if this is worth making many of. Not sure how many guys are really going to want to buy this as a kit. I'm hoping to be able to sell it for $140.00. It's time consuming building all those parts.

So is that $140 for everything or on top of the cost of the stock shifter that you modify?

I don't sell the Winters shifters, the add on kit is the $140.00.
This compares to the $95.00 Rail II or the $200.00 Baja II shift controller I now sell that still requires a floor shifter.

I'd be interested, looks like a great way to incorporate your switches into a high quality shifter and have everything in one.

Wow that is awesome! Yeah I'd be interested. Have you mounted it in your Jeep? Wondering if it would mount flush in the stock console, I am guessing not.

I would be interested in this at some point in time, I am collecting parts for an AW4 swap - even if they were built as needed with a long lead time I bet it would be OK.

Well then I would have to be a dealer for Winters and keep them in stock, remove the shifter from their packaging, then I would have to charge you labor to install the kit, repackage the shifter, then charge you shipping. Not really what I would prefer to do.

Nope, I'm guessing your right. It's not really designed for that.

I'll probably make runs of "X" amount and keep the parts in stock since I don't have to worry about doing assembly.

Yes, I plan on only making a kit for the user to install. This will bolt onto your shifter with no modifications. You will just have to connect all the wiring.

Can this be made to work with other gates besides the stock gate?

What do you have in mind? For an AW4 there is no reverse gate that I am aware of. So explain what pattern you are refering to and I'll let you know.

Side note: I sent a trial setup kit to a guy for testing, he thinks he'll have it going this weekend. Feedback from this is vital before I start producing kits.

Here
My kit will work the Rock Crawler gate, but the AW4 can't be reversed patterned unless someone has a new valve body for this, and I was told by a large aftermarket auto trans company it can't be done. So not sure what Maverick Performance is up too with the reverse pattern AW4 gates. Maybe something new for the world.

Andrew is a great guy, yeah that's what the discussion was about. This should be a hot setup for guys that want a Winters features plus electric control.

Right on! This is what I was thinking of back when you developed the Baja shifter for my car. I'll take one once you are happy with the design.
