looking for answers

Hey, I am trying to help my 17 year old son. He is putting a Chevy 350 backed by a TH400 auto tranny in place of 2.8 factory setup in a 86 cherokee. Was wanting to go from a rod linkage transmission shift to a cable set up. Is there any thing in the junk yards that could be fitted?

Thanks

i did the same in my 86. i used a factory auto shifter and a b&m cable and tranny bracket. cut the linkage off the bottom of the shifter. there should be a hole in the tunnel in front of the shifter to bring the cable through, after that make a bracket to hold the cable and drill a hole in the shifter and mount the cable. leave this end a little loose as the eye must be able to move a little. if not you'll break the cable at that end all the time.easiest way ic ould figure out to do it without cutting the console up.

Thumbs up thanks

Thanks for the info!!!!!! Kinda new to the chevy stuff. But it seems to go into the cherokee better and easier than anything else. You wouldn't happen to have the part numbers for the B&M pieces and any other mods that will have to be made?

Thanks again!!!!!!!!

i dont have the part number for the cable but it should be available at any parts store. firewall clearance will need to be "adjusted" to clear the distibutor. this swap s not complicated but it can be a pain in the ass. if you have any questions feel free to ask. ill explain anything i can and include pics if possible...good luck

Would it be possible to get "junk yard" pieces for this? What GMs would have these pieces?
