Long arm ???

I've done some searching on long arms guys have built and all of them are tied into the tranny crossmember and that is exactly what i'm trying to avoid:

1. i want my arms about 40 inches to make the ride a little less punishing on the highway between trails and on the beach

2. i don't wanna have to drop my whole long arm setup just to drop my tranny in event i need to for some reason.

I've started strengthing the unibody via 3x3 angle, do you guy see any problem with welding my brackets using these:

on both sides i do understand that my shit would more susecptible to rock damage, i will figure something out like boatsiding, etc....also i'm running full width HP60 w/ H1's recentered to have 3.5 inches of backspacing. flame away!!!

I dont know what the other guys think but, I would say if you strengthend the unibody with thick enough steel so you can get a good thick strong weld on I dont see why it wouldnt work. You are right it will hang down a bit low.

The way I see it is that the stock XJ uses a lot less steel then that to hold the control arms on so I cant amagin that it will rip off.

My lower links angle in as much as they can till it just clears the drive shaft and my tires with 3.5in BS on full width axles just bairly rub the links.

If you mount the links directly under the frame your tires will probibly rub the links.
