BANGING NOISE. COMMON? WHATS the FIX?

I just got my xj one of the things I noticed that I think is wrong with it.
Everytime I come to a stop there is a banging noise you can feel and hear. Its like the car stops and then the drivetrain stops.
A simlilar noise happens just by putting the tranny in drive or reverse.

Any ideas?

TJP, come on. Give the kid a break. At least let him get used to what we do here.

This one's easy, the muffler bearings are worn. You'll find them right next to the oil pan in the spot where the factory "header" meets the rest of the exhaust piping. Probably a 15 minute fix once you have the part...it's NAPA #GTFO-6969 if I remember right.

Hey man, I do what I can around here.

To the O.P.: if you can't find that part or have other questions about fixing this, send a PM to pipehitter155. He just fixed his recently IIRC.

you're all wrong. when you're driving around, your motor gets pretty hot. that little engine bay gnome gets pissy and starts beating on stuff. just cut vents in your hood and it'll go away.
