NP231J options?
I recently broke the front output shaft on my NP231.
Kinda rained on my day. Since it actually looked like the rest of the truck was going to hold together. Anyways, so what are the options as far as replacement? I mean, obviously I can put another one in. But I'd like it stronger... Does the wide chain/6 pinion NP231C have a stronger front output? Or the same affair? Does a NP241 (C or D, I guess) have a stronger front output? Is there any chance that I can use my AA HD SYE in one of those cases? Obviously there's the NV241OR case. A little spendy if you ask me. But maybe worth checking into (I don't imagine many a wrecker will have one). Then there's the f' it and buy an atlas/stak route. Or a D300 or w/e. I'm not leaning towards doing this. Mostly cost. Is there anything else that's common that I've missed? |

I think the cheapest way to go would be to buy a 231 HD from JB Convertions. http://www.jbconversions.com/pages/ I think they also answer your question about shaft size in the information on that case.
I priced up the parts and its almost better buying a new case then rebuilding and up grading an old one. If you have the money now is the time for a impovement in your drivetrain. I've been looking for a 241. They where made for V8's and are really just a 231HD
