Not great pictures but you get the idea.
The first pic shows the mounts which use the hitch mounting locations. ![]() This is a close to finished. The "shorty" style bumper. I was going to add corners, but sold the Jeep before I finished. ![]() The hitch was going to come off and a new one was going to be intergrated for better clearence. And yes, i know the mud flaps are lame, but living in the Pacific Northwest they are a must! Last edited by IV WHLN; 06-15-2007 at 04:02 PM. Reason: hitch/flap comment |

![]() This is mine not quite done yet but you get the gist of it. It mounts the same as IV WHLN's. No hitch just some d-rings and soon will have a fold down style tire carrier on it.

The goal was a simple, functional design. I didn't care about rear quarter protection. I'm not exactly good with the welder, so it was built by a friend. It's sleeved into the frame rail and bolted to the gas tank skid bolts in addition to the back of the unibody. It's taken quite a few hits and held up great.

I mounted mine using the hitch mounts. I'm getting ready to re-do the mounts with bigger material for more strength and to allow me to hand D ring shackles off the mount right between the two bolts at the rear of the hitch bracket. I can't think of a heavier duty place to hang them.

JayH, you could very easily take a plasma/torch/grindning wheel, whack a ton of fat out of that. Then piece in chamfer plates which will look better and give you less of the chunky look.

It doesn't look like that anymore. About 18 months ago that bumper aborbed a 40mph impact from another 5000 lb Grand Cherokee with an ARB bull bumper on it on our way home from a RimRock wheelin trip. To its credit, my dog was in the back cargo area at the time and didn't get a scratch. No matter how it looked, it saved my best friend's life.

This is what I had on my old ZJ. The pipe strapped inside the bumper was a small reservoir for my on-board air compressor.
