94 Jeep Cherokee Country 2Dr

I am going to look at a 94 Cherokee country 2dr tomorrow. 4.0L, Auto, 120k miles. The guy is asking $200 for it. It will start and run for about 4-5 seconds then quits. He just changed the fuel filter for it and has a spare fuel pump. Any ideas? The drivers door sags a bit and the interior isn't the best. But for $200 can I really go wrong?

Couldn't think you would go wrong at only $200.
I would guess your looking at a problem with your fuel pump.
Clogged pick up line.
Drop your tank and pull the pump and take a look. One word of advice, gas is heavy, drain every drop out of it you can first.

More then likely it is the fuel pump.. check the pressure on the fuel rail.

do the HO models still have a ballast resistor to drop the pump voltage?

if so, I'd bet that. Jumper it with proper sized wire and see if it still runs.

No ballast on the 94.

good to know.
When did they ditch that?
I know it started in 88, as my 87 doesn't have one and it was a TSB if someone complained about pump noise.

in that case, check for the presence of the ballast resistor, and then jumper it
