Dont Buy A Motor Here!
Just trying to give a heads up to all my fellow jeep owners out there...
Now here comes the really interesting part: I was having some noise from the timing area(see other thread entitled noise from timing cover) so I was preparing to put a new timing set in and while I was lining up the timing marks before disassembly I noticed that while the timing marks were lined up I wasn't getting air out of the spark plug hole...thought to myself this is weird so I popped of the distributor cap and the rotor was pointing at #6....should've been pointing at #1 I continued rotating the motor over and starting feeling compression at the #1 hole look down at the timing marks and the marks were 180* out!!! The assholes that rebuilt this motor installed the timing set with the #1 piston on the down stroke!!!I'm simply amazed that this motor ran as good as it did...never really noticed anything wrong for during the whole year that I've been driving it other than the fact that it always seemed a little sluggish...no backfiring, idled as smooth as glass. When I received the motor last year the timing set was already intalled and I checked the marks and they were linned up,the only step I didn't do was verify that the #1 piston was on the compression stroke....I'll accept blame for that...but there is no excuse for them not doing it in the first place. Here is the link to the place I bought it from so people can save some headache when buying a rebuilt motor: http://www.jeepenginesales.com/jeep_engines_contact.php DON'T BUY FROM THESE IDIOTS!!! |

Ok...disregard I jumped to conclusions
![]() What they did was install the cam dowel in the wrong place making it appear that that the cam was 180* out..there are two holes in the end of the cam that the cam dowel can fit into.Had both myself and my dad really thinking it was out by 180* I remember thinking to myself theres no way it would run....I'm going to go smack myself now.... |

yea....i thought my ass would be on fire from all the flames.
I was thinking that the cam could only be keyed one way on the 4.0 untill I looked close and noticed that it can be keyed two ways.I feel for jumping to conclusions without thoroughly inspection the situation...Its going to be fun while installing the timing set with the cam mark all the way opposite of the crank mark....
