XJ steerint box

How far are you guys safely moving the front axle forward and still running the XJ steering box. Im looking at a D44 with crossover steering but looks like if I move forward muhc my steering will be all out of whack

If moving the axle forward results in interference with the steering (Pittman arm to tie rod clearance), then you have to reposition the steering box. If you move the steering box (on an XJ), the front cross member will be in the way, and the driver's side frame rail will have to be modified to accept the new location. The frame has an internal crush sleeve/support bracket that is spot welded in place; you would need to move this to the appropriate place.

i put wrangler leafs in the front of my 89 xj, with the rear spring eye mounted in the stock lower control arm mounting hole on the frame. This moved the axle approx. 4 inches foward, and i had no problems lining everything up. i have high steer arms and everything works well.

to move the steering box, you'd have to literally cut out the front cross member since the stock steering box location is practically butted up really close already.

Maybe fab up a front bumper with steering box attach points. hehe
