I completely forgot to update this thread after our Good Friday wheeling trip.
Here are some photos... Yes, my PS coil spring fell out on Yellow Jacket... I forgot to install the lower retainer. (Coincidentally the retainer was assumed lost, then found UNDER the battery in the XJ a month later when the alternator died, and I removed the battery to service the alternator. )I ended up getting sick halfway through the day, and felt like absolute SHIT for the rest of Easter weekend. Haven't gone wheeling since. ![]()

Yeah, I've been driving it locally more and more, plus a trip to work this past Tuesday...
Lowes was for flooring underlayment, plumbing, and something else. This pic was from this morning was at Cramers, picking up a window for the new bathroom. |

Black Friday Wheeling Trip...
So, Thanks to Liquid Iron, I finally have a tire carrier:
![]() And I finally manged to get out in the rocks again... Here are a few pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Drove it almost 200 miles round trip, averaged 15 miles per gallon, and was only denied on three obstacles... Mostly due to my lack of a rear locker. The PSC power steering worked REALLY well, even without the ram hooked up (LONG story) and was really predictable at speed. True one finger steering at 75MPH. I'll be doing some cage work in the near future, along with getting the hydro assist hooked up, installing some deeper gears , and some "real" skids on the bottom. All in all, I'm very happy with the performance thus far. Look for more updates. Last edited by the freeak; 11-26-2011 at 09:48 AM. |

WOW! I just read through the entire thread... actually I read through BOTH of your threads over the past 2 days. Everything you've done makes me shake my head at the plans I have for my XJ.
Subscribed and can't wait to see what you come up with for a cage. Oh, and keep the RC pics coming. When I get back from Afghanistan this summer we'll be making the move from NC back up to PA where my wife and I are both from. Depending on what job I end up getting we'll be somewhere in the York, Lancaster, Philly area. |

![]() We took her on several 1-2 hour long road trips in the jeep before we took her out for the whole day. She had fun; All I hear about now is: Jeepah! Dirty! Rocks! Climb? Mud! SPLASH! Seat? (put her seat in the jeep) Woods? Go? ![]() It should be noted that my wife and I are very lucky; she's incredibly easy going. I took it really easy, and we were aired down, but the jeep still bounced her around pretty good. I don't want to hurt her neck. Next time out we're going to roll up a medium sized towel and make a neck support collar for her. -Chris |

Took it wheeling a few times, got bored, and I sold it.
![]() ![]() It went to a VERY good home, and I know I'll be seeing it frequently, as the new owner and I are very good friends. ![]() Enjoy it Pat! ![]() I'm eventually moving back into something with less roof, and more tube. But in the interim.... I call it "The Grand Adventure"... |
