Here's what I did to my MJ.

This is mine... You could retain the tailgate if you took a little less out. I chopped it right at the shackle you can see the big X frame brace sticking out preventing the use of the tailgate.

Here are a few more pics. I would have done a nicer job but the truck is so rusty we didn't really care... But the bobbed long bed has a really unique look to it, distinctive...

Makes for a nice departure angle with 38's...

 

Gonna keep the tailgate. Mine will be much like the botton photo. Factory longbed. Seems like most people take about 10" from the back after cutting off the tailgate and lights section...

 

the problem with keeping the tailgate is the frame being in the way.if you notice on the bottom pic is that 4" of frame between the bed and the bumper will prevent the tailgate from sitting where it should be.if you bob 10" from the bed you'll have to cut the frame back enough ,problem with that is you will lose the shackle,you will have to get shorter springs and relocate the shackle.just like what it appears twisty has done

 

That is exactly why I just cut the back of the bed off, trimmed the frame, and welded the bumper to the frame.

My bed is bobbed 8"

 

Is that all in the rear? Or is some taken out of the front of the bed as well? Thats the exact look I'm looking for.

 

It was all taken out of the rear.

 

Here's a couple early pictures of mine from a couple years ago. I took 7" out and retained the tail gate also filled in the light openings and stuffed some LED's in.

I took some out of the front and some out of the rear. I wanted a shorter wheelbase because I keep getting hung up on my driveline and I destroyed my driveline when down on the Rubicon.
