EDIT: the more I think about it the more an over the engine makes since. I don't have much room under the engine especially on the chunk side. We'll see.... Last edited by ls1toyota; 12-11-2011 at 08:05 AM. |

Overdue for an update, just don't have much done. I hate the cold so I don't get out much in the winter. I had all intentions of working on it this past wknd and did for about an hour. My bro in law had their baby so it screwed me up.
Did manage to get the intake tapped for the boost gauge but that was it. Hope to get more done this wknd. ![]()

Subscribing and I hope to see this in person one day. Great build, thanks for all the pics, kids little hands are always good to have around when working in tight spaces, I'm sure your son has come in handy more than once!

Did a little work last night and got the pyrometer prob installed in the exhaust manifold. Also started working on the exhaust. Made some flanges to attach the exhaust to the down pipe. Should finish the exhaust up this week.
Pics aren't that great. ![]()

Love the build. I am just about done with my 4BT jeep, and I have been driving it around for awhile - it is worth the wait
![]() Just a suggestion - Jegs sells relatively cheap AN-4 braided stainless line with all the fittings to work with the boost gauge if you get leery of that nylon junk. Granted, the nylon line in my Powerstroke lasted 6 years, but it was off the MAP sensor and not off the intake. I ran mine with braided stainless off the head to help with heat and vibration. http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS-Performan...62797/10002/-1

Started plumbing the ps and hydr boost. I ordered some reusable fittings and hose so I could make them myself. I thought the gear box pressure port was 3/8" inverted flare but it is actually 7/16". I couldn't finish it today. They don't have a 7/16" fitting and can't find one. Going to have to use the original ans add I splice fitting.
Also worked on wiring the dash. Hose / fittings and the first hose I made. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Mounted the ps filter. Once my fittings come in the ps/hydro boost plumbing will be done.
Also modified my water inlet for the engine. It's still in the oven cooling. Finish it and the radiator plumbing this week. ![]() ![]()

Heater box
Nice work so far! I wish I saw this long ago.
About your heater box/turbo clearance issue, I know you just removed the box but you didn't have to. Cummins makes all kinds of manifolds. I believe some of the tractor versions of the B-series Cummins used manifolds that place the turbo between the number one and two cylinders. I may be wrong on the version of the engine but trust me those manifolds are out there. Also you can flip the manifold upside down (I had to do this for a set of twin turbos) and everything works the same, you just have to re-clock the turbo housing. Not sure how much hood clearance you have but if there is enough I believe it would solve your problem. Since you are running a non-IC Cummins, meth/water injection would be a great addition if you up the boost. These early 12v with the rotary inj pumps get great fuel mileage. Good luck with the rest of the build, I'll be swinging one in my GW someday. For now I'll enjoy the one in my half ton Dodge

You should head over to www.competitiondiesel.com and go to the conversion forums, post this beauty up in there!

Sick build tho. And as far as not wanting to work in the cold...SC never gets cold haha. Come spend a winter here in Montana and you'll have a new understanding of cold. Earlier this year I changed oil in my dd in a foot of snow at 14 degrees (the warmest day that week) in jeans and a hoodie.

Those red LEDs would drive me nuts at night haha. My buddy has them in his F250 and I can not drive that thing at night. Bugs the hell out of my eyes but they look cool!
