How to lighten a zj. Pt1

Well I've been wheeling my heavy pig of a zj for a while now and it became brutally clear that heavy equals broken parts. So I got out the sawzall and went to town. I figure I've dropped over 450-500 lbs. And boy did it make a difference at the hammers this weekend! So from this.

Make sure you have some liquid courage because it took me about an hour to convince my self to make the first cut. Once I did it was on like donkey kong.

HF cutoff wheels suck, I've had multiple ones shatter and explode on me.

Get them from here

I'll second this, even the Home Depot ones are absolute garbage. I use Sait wheels now and I'd bet they last 4-5x as long. Although any wheel will explode on you if you're not careful.

Got the fuel cell in as well. I bet that alone shave 25-30 lbs that stock tank and skid plate were heavy sobs. New Holley inline pump and the 5.2 was running better than ever I do however need to clean up my ghetto plumbing.

Got the fourlink cycling better than ever. Once all the inference was out of the way. It made a huge difference.

No I didnt change my springs out. I took almost all preload out though. Just waiting on money. Then I'll do bump cans f/r limit straps new springs and coilover in the front. Right now I'm running ford radius arms w/ 9" JK springs and bilstein 6100 s up front and it blows at anything more that about 20 offroad. Bottoms out like Crazy.

I have a blacksmith warehouse near by that sells great cut off wheels for $1.50 each and I have never had one brake!

Not much to up date other than I laid out some visuals for my rear cage for mock up with e-tape. Lol cheap and effective.

Thanks about the grinding wheels guys. Ill check them out.

As for making the first cut, It wont be a problem for me as my rig isn't nearly as nice as yours and its no stranger to a sawzall and a grinder.

Well I need you alls opinion. I did my back half job and was doing my cage when I had a thought about doing my spare tire mount and rear "stinger". It's all mock off coars so don't be brutal on the hasty cuts on the tube. But I'd like to know what you guys think.

I think it would work out well and open up space if you put a bend near the bottom of the stinger so you could squeeze the tire vertically behind the fuel cell. Then you could use the space above the fuel cell...make a rack for a cooler or other crap you want to lug around.

I tried doing it. However I dont have a bender. And also the other way I had it my fuel cell was crowded and there wasn't a who lotta room for upsizing tires down the road. However if I can get someone to bend it up for me I'd love to go that route
