MT Baja Claw Vs. Swampers (TS/SX/SSR) - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

I found MT Baja Claw radials for around $160. (35x12.50-15) The same size SSR's are like $190. TSL's are cheaper, but not in the sizes I want...

i got a simular thread in the general 4x4 discussion maybe check it out. i have heard SSR's have weak sidewalls and claws are very short per size i.e. 35s are 33s

Get the tsl sx's and be done with it!!! Those suckers are tough as nails, atleast on the trails round here...

The claws suck. They don’t do well in mud or rock around here.
But that’s all from observations I have made on the trail and competitions. I have never used them my self. But the swappers always kick everybody’s but here. I have to get some off them SX’s in 38’s but need the $$$$My 02.

The 35 claw is only 33" for real. Too small!

a 33" TSL is at least as tall as a 35" claw if not bigger. Also the Radial Claws have even crappier tread then the bias ones and sidewall strength is at best comparable to an SSR. The weakness of SSR's is usually in comparison to other swampers, people just expect alot out of them because they are a swamper and don't treat them like any old radial MT

The SSRs are seriously weak in the sidewalls.
I went through 5 of them in 6 months, and not just on trails like the hammers. I punctured 2 on one trip through Rubicon. I use to carry 2 spare tubes anytime I went anywhere, just in case the spare wasnt enough.
They do however have pretty good traction on all types of terrain, including slick rock and boulders.

First thing I will say is I am running the 35" radial claws and they do good in the rocks and dirt but need top be aired WAY down in order to do good in mud or snow...also even though they are radials they wear out super fast...I will probably need to buy new tires for next summer...I have only ran these tires for one summer(I bet the spool doesn't help though <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">)...also anyone that is saying 35s measure 33" is lying because mine measured a little over 34"s at 20 psi and in fact mine were taller than another guys 35" MRTs I was at 8 psi and he was at 20 psi...but I have heard that the bias claws measure smaller than the radials...when I do get my new tires I am of course going to get SXs and be done with it...even though these tires have been OK I would not get them again nor would I recommend them to anyone...now I know Glenn loves his claws he is running the bias claws

Nahh, no liars here, maybe your tape measure is broken... <IMG SRC="smilies/thefinger.gif" border="0"> I do know that the Real Baja Claws (Bias ply tires are the ONLY way to go) measure small as crap... I loved mine, but for the cash and the overall size, the decision for TSL's was not hard, they do everything my claws did, but with a little less noise and a little more air... Hugh

I have 35" radial claws on my TJ and I can assure everyone they DO run small. Right now my claws measure exactly 33" with 25k miles on them. When they wear out, probably at the end of the year, they will be down to 32.5", yes that 35" tire will be a 32. <IMG SRC="smilies/pissed.gif" border="0"> Sad. Never again will I buy these tires because they run so small. They have been a dam good mud tire though. If anyone wants I can take a picture with a tape measure.

That would settle this issue. These guys are saying that the 35's are not 33" tall.

Here you go the massive 35x12.50" Mickey Thompson Radial Claw. This is on a 10x15" black rockcrawler with 28lbs of air. I know that a 10" wide rim will have some effect on tire height but it shouldn't be this dramatic. Oh I just relized I am not very good with a camera. I got this on about the 10th try. I think any Swamper would be a better choice as far as get the most tire for your money.
