Well, last month my brother overheated his TJ. That 2-row plastic POS rad clogged on him. He cracked the head in the process. So, he had it fixed to the tune of $1100. Now, the dealership tells him that he isn't getting the proper oil pressure (apparently hasn't been for a while) even though they put a new oil pump in. Does anyone have any experience with this?? Also...we'd like to do an engine swap in the future, since this one may not last long "as is". A V8 would be nice, but does it have to be a '97 or newer engine?? An I6 engine and tranny should make aneasy enough swap as well. What sux is he just regeared to 4.88. That would be sick gearing behind a 4.0 or a v8. <IMG SRC="smilies/vader1.gif" border="0">

As for your swap, I got bored once and talked to the techs at Jeep... looks like a late model Grand Cherokee V8 will go in w/o too many headaches. Not to say there won't be any (we know better than that!)

Bored..that's hilarious. Anyway that is a hell of an idea since we will most likely (not sure about the law) have to keep it the same year or newer that his TJ. I've read the archives on swaps and V8 is obviously the way to go. His current engine will have to last him until I get out of the military..because he has no mechanical knowledge...and although, mine is limited...I am fairly certain that with time and research we could accomplish whatever we try.

I am pretty sure that in most states the motor must be the same year or newer than the original and the motor must keep all factory smog equipment that came behind the new motor. That means that if you swap in a v8 that had dual cats from the factory, then you have to run dual cats on your new setup. All this only pertains if you want it to be road legal and you must pass emissions to get your vehicle inspected.

The dealership said they put in a new oil pump to try and solve this.....my question is do you think the screen could be clogged up?? I mean....the motor only has 60K on it....how can it have bearing clearance issues?????
