Easiest Steering Column Swap (CJ-5)

I grabbed the steering column out a Commanche I paid $100.00 for before I donated it to the local YARD. The column isn't tilt and from the way it looks it will be a pain in the _ss to mount into my 73 CJ-5. If I am going to spend the time putting in a different column, I would want tilt. What is the easiest column to swap into this thing!

I SEARCHED, and this is a topic that hasn't been covered real intensively!!!

easiest? flaming river like i'm putting in my 59 wagon. not cheap though,i'm trying to forget how much i paid so don't ask .

take a look at 92 and older astro/safari van columns. non-air bag, tilt, with a normal size wheel(not to big). i think painless makes a harness that plugs into it so you can use the signals and stuff off the column.

Nothing will be 'easy' on a CJ older than '76. No matter what you pick some fabrication will be necessary. Most of the Saginaw columns use the same mounting system, so they aren't all that different from say a '76 Chevy pickup to a '91 Grand Wagoneer.

I used a column out of an 83 cj7 laredo in my 72. It didn't exaclty bolt up but no column will. U are going to have to do a little bit of fab to get the mounting points right but it wasn't bad at all. The biggest problem was that the floor isn't the same as later cjs and u have to space the bottom mounting bolts on the floor.
