Post Axles, Which ones???

I'm looking for a Dana 44, front, for my YJ.
When looking at the junyards what vehicles should I be looking at?
Make, model, and year.

For driver side drop you will need a Ford front.

Thumbs up

Yeah, look for a Ford 44 from either an F-250 or an EB (early Bronco). You could also check out the Wagoneer 44s. I know some have a pass. diff, but there are quite a few out there with the driver-side diff as well.

waggy 44 fronts fit ok, but you may have to go to outboard spring mounts....also watch for and avoid disconnect axles

How early of a Bronco.
And don't they have those big ass cast knuckles on them for trailing arms?
If so what do you do with them?

And what year F-250?Any?

I do have a '59 Ford truck with a 44 front.
But it has closed u-joints.
What is the problem with that?

This has been covered, 80's wagoneer fits real nice, no need to outboard the springs as far as I know.

I think the easiest 44 for you to run would be a Waggy 44.

You could run a Scout 44, but they are a little narrower and are factory SUA (sprung-under axle). Don't know how you would go about SOA-ing in becuase the spring would have to rest on the diff housing (its in the way).

EB 44s have front coils and radius arms, so you would have to shave the mounts off and fab some new leaf pearches.

Don't know about the '59 Ford 44, I'd see if that would work first. The F250 44s are front SOA, but thats about as much as I know.

I do know that Brent aka: Borton is running a Scout rear 44 and a Ford F-250(?) 44 on his XJ.

He would be the person I would ask.

Thats what I would do. Go dig you up a set of Waggy 44s and drop them in. I'ev also heard of a guy here in NC that buys up old Dodge Rams and Powerwagons and takes the 60s out and sells them as pairs for like $1500 total.

hey hotrod,

on the EB 44 I picked up a reverse cut out of a 78, it has the big ass casts on them, so have it re-tubed.

The disappointing thing or things about EB 44's, is that they have the small 260 u-joints, are standard cut, and spindles, knuckles, and caliper brackets must be swapped for hy-steer to make this axle worth a shit. Nice thing is, the width is pretty descent "stockish" if you don't wanna run full width, and the ford hubs (put in warn premium) and rotors are good.

I know, I went the ford eb route, and spent more money than I should have trying to make the axle halfway worthy. G-waggy is the way to go FER SURE,

all grand wagoneers and wagoneers used SUA front 44s. the rear was the only SOA axle.

all grand wags will have either 2.73s or 3.31s. do not get 83-84 axles, those are vac disconnect. very undesirable.

most wag 44 fronts will be free running hubs. if you can find one with command trac (np208 case) it will have manual hubs.

wag axles are nearly the exact same width as YJ axles. +/- 1/2" i believe.

I also found 3 F-250 HP D44's in a couple of junk yards for about $250.00 complete.

I never said there wasn't any rust holes but I was interested in the driveline not the body. I really didn't look over the body. In the past week I've seen so many D60's just laying around in a couple of the yards here it is hard to believe. I bet I saw at least 50 if not more. Make's me want to make the XJ a DD and build a wild YJ or buggy. Too bad I don't have the cash to snatch up a bunch right now.

OH YEA
