88' Cherokee V8 swap
As you can see I am new to this forum. I heard you huys know your stuff so I thought I would give it a try. I did a search on this subject and found some OK info, but I am looking for something a little more in depth. Has anyone completed this motor swap, and if you have what where some of the things to look out for.
I am looking to put a TBI350 with a TH700r4 and the stock np231, I know Novak makes the adapter for the trans and transfer case as well as the motor mounts. Did they work out well, what else am I gonna have to do to get this to work. Thanks for all your input. I hope to get this under way soon!

I have done this swap ! Best you ever can do to your XJ.
The SB engine mounts I made by my own, the TH700R stands on the stock T-Case bridge mount, some inches to the rear, also I have made an own adapter to match the TH700 to the 231, cut off the TH700 shaft in length of the adapter, redrilled the 231 to match to the bolts of the TH700. I have made this in 1998, it works without any problems !!! Bengt

Hopefully your TBI is later model and you will be using the (small cap) ESC distributor...the large cap fits w/o hammering the firewall but you can't change the cap or prime the oil pump with the motor in place.
Electric fans are your friends...get two electric fans off any late model XJ (95+) and mount them as pullers...if you can swing the bucks for a Al rad then I recommend that as my motor pushes 200+ on a hot day in traffic. Get a remote oil filter...if you use the longer of the two oil filters the front driveshaft will hit the oil filter when you stuff the left tire. The tranny tunnel is a tight fit...I recommend reforming it a bit if you ever want to pull the tranny out pulling the engine. Stay away from the headers that AA sells...they are garbage in terms of header design and rarely fit...I found this out the hard way. That's all that I can think of off the top of my head...I did this like 4 years ago so specific questions will help me remember a lot better. Oh, if you happen to find headers that fit...please let me know as I rather not build me own set.

I have no experience with the painless harness...I used the stock harness and spliced into it. Later I upgraded to an aftermarket ECU ([rant] ACCEL sucks ass [endrant]) which came with it's own harness. So, I have two harness' at the moment and there is junk cross spliced between the two.
Talk about a nightmare...I recommend that you use the harness off the donor vehicle and just run that nice and simple.

I don't mean to drag up an old thread...I was just actually "SEARCHING" like I yell at so many newbies to do and came across this one.
I am having some issues on creating a new air intake system for my rig. I am trying to get rid of the shitty looking bullet air-cleaners that are above the hood. They are fed by like 4 miles of line...great for performance... Anyway pics tonight it is then... It is also a tall manifold truck/Bronco 5.0...not a low-line Mustang/car 5.0. So I have the dual runners that i need to merge into one air cleaner box somehow...

I did the swap. 5.7l 700r4
With a Edelbrock MPFI setup. Using AA motor mounts, headers and T-Case adaptor. Ive since swapped to an AtlasII. I didnt have any clerance issues with my large cap If you mean the 5.0 Chevy motor, its the same block. Cooling is a problem, remote oil filter is necessary, watch for clearance between the oil pan and trackbar/front diff. watch for hood clearance. Get a BeCool or Griffin radiator for it. Use electric fans. If you have specific questions just PM me. Heres some pics:
