Transfer case noise 89 wrangler!!!
Just a question, 1989 wrangler with 160,000 miles and i noticed that under a load the transfer case is making a noise. It sounds like the chain is slipping on the gears. My question is weather this is common for the amount of miles,or do i need to look elseware?
Just a little info would be great. thanks

My chain started slipping under load as well. I replaced the chain with a $20 junk yard chain and it has worked fine. Just make sure the case you pull it out of hasn't been thrashed on, or you can buy a new one from somewere like 4wd hardware, etc...

crack up the case, replace chains, seals, and bearings, reassemble, and you got an almost new case, for about $300.
