350 swap into my xj
I am considering a small block swap into my 93 cherokee. I know i will need the adapter bellhousing and slave cylinder from AA. I need info on headers, exhaust clearance, and cooling. I have a 3 core radiator in it already and i am going to use dual electric puller fans, maybe 3. I am also going to use the ax-15 5 spd manual, ive seen this tranny used behind a small block before and held up well to much abuse.

Good luck with the whole 3 fan deal...there isn't much room for 2 healthy fans yet alone 3. I got a clutchless mech fan and 2 elec and I still see high temps...if you can swing it get an Al rad. Do a damn search there have been many posts regarding this swap and I'm getting tired of repeating myself.

of course anybody can tear up anything, no matter how strong you build it. but i have seen a wrangler with a mild 350 in it mated to an ax-15 with a centerforce clutch and it held up fine to some crazy dumps off the clutch, the rest of the wrangler didn't hold up so good though
(t/c,rearend,driveshafts)but my xj has been upgraded in the driveline department so i figure it'll hold up to a 350, and the trans will to as long as i dont get to ignorant with it..

I used an AX-15 behind a Chevy 350 330HP motor for several years with no problems. I didn't race it but I didn't baby it either.
jeepmauler Unless the trans was changed in the rig you have it would be a AX-5 which would never hold up.

i only do some trail rides not very often and mud bogs, so i am not going to crawl with it and that will help out my drivetrain. not as much stress on it while easin on the street and the occasional puttin the foot to it

I found some places that would make you a custom for 300. I opted to just build my own. I got some core stock with a couple of blemishes in it from a local rad shop. Made the header tanks and the inlet/outlet and bought the filler neck. All I gotta do finish welding it up.

I got first hand experience with AA headers and they are garbage. They didn't even fit....
The way my motor is placed I don't have much room for headers on the driverside, I searched and searched but couldn't find anything that would fit so I'll be building a custom set when funding allows. So for the time being, manifolds off a 70 camaro. I don't know what kinda mounts AA is selling now...but when I did my swap I built my own brackets and used stock GM. I don't like solid mounts, too much vibe and problems with the trans and x-case. If you want more throttle response use stock mounts and build a brace for the top of the motor...kinda like import tuners do it.

what kind of throttle cable did you use ?? i am going to run a carb set up and need info on the throttle cable. the stock jeep cable is very long and is mated to the throttle body by a ball deal. Maybe cut off the jeep throttle body bracket and weld it to the carb linkage??? What works??

Pass side is just a straight shot back off the manifold. Drv side comes off the manifold, under the oil pan over to the pass side. Get one of them oil filter relocation doohickies makes more space in there. Here's the only pic I got of the engine bay...kinda old...but no got a digi camera anymore so you'll have to deal. @PhatXJ d00d, a SBC will eat that truck up...so many things would break that I don't want to even begin to count....

Tony..can this be done?
I want to drop a 400M into my XJ and fab it up to a C6. I gotta Ford 9" in the rear and the Ford engine/tranny combo would be sweet for turnin' my meats.

I have done a 350 swap in my XJ ,too and have had always cooling problems as long the stock radiator was in.
Then I changed to the original Chevy radiator with a electrical cooler with 16.5", now the probs are gone. First I wanted to cut my frame in the front, but the leaf spring mounts in front are fixed there, so I lenghten the body for 4" . Look at pics About the tranny you want to use I have no experience ! I have the TH700R4 . Show some pics when ready.
