Does it vibrate at speed? (jighway)
I guess since it's a 4 banger YJ (I've got one too), does it vibrate at speed noticably more than it used to? I'm guessing it's still got the slip yoke, that angle doesn't look too bad, it if isn't shaking and the slip yoke isn't going to slip out, I'd say run with it. If it does shake/slip out, make strange noises you ought to put the drop in, but I think you should be able to get away without it. |

Those pro-comp lifts are shit! There stiff as hell. If you want a bolt in lift with a decent ride throw out a couple more bucks for a RE lift. Also if i'm not mistaken the lift comes with 2-2 degree shims for the rear, they are there for a reason. They make the pinion angle parrallel to the tranny out put shaft angle when you put in the tranny drop. This is desirable for highway vehicles since it avoids annoying vibrations and worn out u joints. If this lift is just for looks why dont you just throw on a 1" body lift with a 1" shackle lift. Cheap and easy.

Instead of guessing, git in one of yer other vehicles and go get a cheap angle finder. Check to make sure that the pinion is 1-2* below parallel (if using the stock driveshaft) with the x-case output shaft and you'll be good to go.
Maybe, just maybe this should be moved to the newbie forum

Why not?
If it is not going to be wheeled much (i.e., the lift is just for looks, as you said in your post), then why wouldn't you put it on? The only downside of those drop kits is the loss of breakover angle, which isn't a concern on a street-rig.
If it came with the kit, then it probably needs it. In fact, most YJ's have driveshaft vibration from the factory, so any change to the suspension will likely cause more problems. Check the angles, as suggested by others in this post. If they are off at all, then you will go through u-joints faster than you should (I know from experience). |
