Late breaking news for me...
Ok A guy on a more local board is planning a group buy to get us in on some cheap 8.8"s they are brand new from factory. Story is FORD made a shitload (read : 1 million) 8.8's but punked out on them cause they went to IRS on the explorer/escape.
So From what I've read these are stronger then a 44, but not as strong as a 60 cause that's the 9"s job. So is the 8.8 a good setup to go up to 36's? The deal for us is, get 10 people, we get 10 axles for cheap, we can choose our gears, and installation of a locker is free, though we pay for the locker separately. They are complete...disc to disc One guy interested posted this: "I'm curious if these are coming from Ariel Performance down south. I've heard they bought a serious number of them from Ford. All they have left is about 350 units with 3.55:1 and open carriers. They are going for $425USD plus shipping. They're brand spanking new, never installed, complete with disks and calipers. They are already on pallets from Ford, ready to go. " Any turth to this? I couldn't find Ariel Performance on the web so I can't confirm on my own....

I don't know aboutr this actual deal but a buddy of mine just picked up one of these brand new surplus 8.8 from a guy selling a few on e-bay for $400.
it was brand new, still had Ford stickers and bar codes plastered all over it...

I don't doubt it, there were a couple companies selling brand new 8.8 on pallets for around $500 each. A great axle if you are running 35" and under tires.
