I have 72 cj-5 that has a broken frame. I am looking to put a new frame under it but I am having a hard time finding a good frame out of a 72. My question is what year jeep frames will work under this body? I found a 78 but I am not sure if this will work? Any advice?

What is so broken that it cant be fixed? To answer the question I would think about 55 to 72.5 are the same. I have the frame out of my old 66 that you could have for a case of
It is cracked in some spots and mostly boxed. I also have buggie leafs on it front and rear.

'72 - '75 should be the same.
'71 & older are ~2" shorter wheelbase. the length was added in the engine compartnent in '72 to accomodate the straight 6. '76 & newer are a stronger frame w/ same wheelbase (83"), but body mounts may be different.

Oh yeah,
Forgot to say, Just buy some steel, Jack the thing up, put it on jackstands and burn some steel. One thing to keep in mind is that you dont want to weld vertically on your frame. Sure you may have to weld the cracks vertical but weld a diamond SHAPED plate over the top of that weld. And then weld a strap of steel to the bottom of the frame. Best thing to do is pull your tub off this winter and box the rest of the frame. T3

You can use the 78 frame but you will have to mave your spring pads out and the body mounts. in 76 AMC boxed the frame and tapered the ass end out a few inches. I put an older frame under a newer 5. Here in the rust belt there tends to be a problem with the boxed frames.
