So, quick back story for those that give 2 rips. Finished my buggy build October of 2013, wheeled it several times, then realized I had put too much time and effort into it to use it like it was made to be used/abused. Decided I might like to have a little more dual purpose built rig and if I was gonna sell the buggy, now was the time, while she was still fresh and new. So, sold the buggy. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/general-4x4-discussion/1097442-gufnoff-buggy.html) Buggy build thread.

Bought back a jeep that had lots of good parts and needed some TLC ( and a tranny, busted tail housing).

This is after the first bath in probably 5 years, whew was there caked on crap every where.

Was trying to get it ready for a trip I 2 weeks, so found a tranny and got it built. Had to re do some stuff and just do general maint.

Rear Detroit, notice anything amiss?

Yep, 4 bolts broken/then chewed up, that's the stuff I caught out of the diff.

Replaced a bent leaf spring(cause for broken t tranny) built a new cross member that the tranny actually bolts to, instead of just sitting on, reset the front gears and went wheeling.

It did good, I tried to find any problems by being rougher than normal with it, he passed.

Realized the frame was flexing and making the tub pop and the tires were rubbing the rear of the fender opening, so mods were in order. Bumper Automotive exterior Floor Auto part

I'm in the process of finishing this part up now.

As for the name, it's all baby steps, every thing I do requires something else, so, it's what about bob

And just a lil welderin' porn to keep you wondering.......

Kinda started this in a rush, so here are some specs.

Current: 5.3, t400, atlas 3.8. Rear 4 link w/ 14" CO's. Dyna trac 60, 4:88's, detriot. Front leaf springs. HP 60 front, Detroit, 4:88, 35 spl chromos. Dom cage, corbeaus.....blahblahblah

New plans: new rear frame, tie in cage, sink fuel cel, cooler mount. Trim wheel opening to prevent rubbing, ditch the flares, ditch the 5" angle iron bumper. (Currently in progress)

Fix dash bar on cage and bent tube above driver. New neater flat dash, console and new shifter.

Tuck t case and flat skid, link and CO the front and build a new frame section, all with the idea of dropping it down about 4-5".

Oh and new shoes..... Tire Automotive tire Wheel Auto part Rim

Few updates, been working on misc stuff, have a trip planned to Colorado in a few weeks and trying to prep the best I can.

Rack for cooler and tool box, swings open when I need to add gas. Filled in crushers from old tail gate hinges and gas filler opening cut outs.

Trying to do things that will help in the long run for when I'm able to lower it down, coilovers were mounted to the back of the axle, so I moved em up so I have enough up travel later.

New rear frame is done and gusseted.

The Jeep had a 3/16" tailgate protector on it when I bought it, I took the tailgate off but in the spirit of being green (actually, just trying to save some green...) I reused it for the fuel cel skid. Pretty pimp to have an airbrushed skid..........:grinpimp:

New fuel pump and filter mount that's removable so I can un bolt it and pull it down to work on it/service it.

Well, this thread has been dormant for awhile. But as with any Jeep build there are always changes that will be made. I have decided, based on everything I would like to do, down time involved and the fact I really hate laying on my back trying to grind, cut and weld, that it would be easier to start with a blank canvas. I found a TJ project sitting in a chicken house that will serve as the new base for this project. Goal is to set up as much of the new rig as I can, keep wheeling the YJ and transplant the drivetrain in when I am ready.

New spes: same drivetrain, cut/raise front and rear frames, flat skid, cut the back half of the tub off.

Hardest part of the Build is done, removing all the factory brackets.

Thinking about going for the true "mid engine"......

Being close to Thanksgiving, I have been thinking about pie, hence the idea for narrowing the rear frame rails, remove pie shape, bend and weld back.

The 1 1/2" sq tube is just temp until I get the body back on and figure out my bumpers

Getting ready to cut the front, why cut here? Have you ever tried to remove a factory trac bar bracket?

That's all I got done today, back at it tomorrow.

Boat side time

Pic of tub when I got it, PO had some work done. gonna cut that stuff out. Had been boat sided and dove tailed, very poorly!!

Previous handy work

Since I am moving my drivetrain from a YJ to a TJ, I have been comparing the 2 tubs quite a bit. Few small differences that require attention to get a very big boatside.

Floor bracing is in the way, drill out the spot welds and remove.

Second is this body mount track that hangs down below the bottom of the tub. Which would hold the new boat side down 1.5". Same cure, drill spot welds and remove.

Cleaned up, removed.

Blanks, sourced locally.

Mock up install.

Plugging along. Got the Boat sides finished up.

Interior:

Ext:

Sitting at full bump right now. 14" belly, shooting for 21" ride height and 7"up/down.

Had to trim my boat side blanks to sit the tub down flat on the frame, they were too long and the frame started the rise earlier then the boat sides. Planning on not running any body mounts, gonna weld the rockers right to the frame, so it needs to sit down tight.

Borrowed a page out of the "Labamba gone gangster thread" and cut out some lower link bracket/t-case drop/ flat skid mount.

Making a little bit of progress, been busy with Christmas. Been working on redoing the PO's hack dove tail job (he hired it done). Decided it was easiest to cut it all off and start over. But since I went straight out with the rear frame from the highest point that raises the floor of the bed by about 2.5" and I removed the body mounts which lowered the tub down 1.5", so I had a 4' gap to make up.

4" gap and new sides on old bed floor

Made filler and some new top for fenders.

Front finished (have a few small pieces on the bottom, but will address that later as I'm planning on going straight to the frame for my cage)

Rear finished. I'm going to use the lip facing down on the top of the fender like 1 big tab and drill and bolt some outer skins on, wrapping to the rear opening. Pretty much like a buggy.

Winch plate

Mock up motor mounted, no I'm not using that pan.....

Starting on cage/seats mounts tomorrow.

Getting started on the cage. I don't have a bender so I'm taking the few pieces that need it down to a buddy's house. I'm going to keep the total # of bends to a minimum so I don't burn up the highway going back and forth.

B pillar ties in to top of frame rail, I'll finish the sheet metal once the tub is in place for the last time.

Bolted in the links. 1 7/8", 9/16" wall drill steel with 1.25" heims.
