SB Ive never heard of a hp standard cut, but if its a standard cut, just go get standard cut gears, chances are teh pinion is angled so the regular standard cut, ARE regular standard cut, i even sell those

High pinion and low pinion both rotate the same direction. The
high pinion isn't reverse rotation it is just cut the opposite
direction so that the pinion will drive on the drive side of the
gear and not the coast side like a low pinion does when used
in the front.

Yes, but when you put a HP in the rear it rotates on the weaker side of the gear. So like I was asking, does someone make a standard cut ring & pinion ( like in a rear Diff) for this.

how much HP/gearing do you have? a RC D60 can handle some pretty good torque....

Nothing major (4.0) , I am just asking because I know that the torque will be on the weaker side of the gear. I busted a D60 F.F axle shaft with a 4.0, lock right /4.10 gears and 38.5 SX's.

I'd bet you broke a stock 30 spline shaft which isn't too hard to do. But you should be fine on your worries of destroying a D60 R&P w/ that setup, IMO....

You are right on the 30 spline.

I busted the ring gear on my HP60 on about the 3rd trip out but feel it was due to a bad gear set not the design. i have ran for years no on the set i replaced that 1st one with and have had no problems. A friend of mine runs a 472 big bolck with a 4 link rear going to 39.5X18 boggers and has yet to bust one. From the torque he has been able to get the pinion nut to loosen and have the pinion start driving into the carrier.

I was going to say the only thing to watch for are the HP gears that use a crush sleeve. I don't think it would be a good idea to use that style, it would be better to use HP gears that use shims to set the preload on the pinion.

A HP gear in a rear axle application drives on the coast side of the gears, which is no problem for a HP Dana 60. There are a lot of guys running HP 60s in the rear and don't break the gears.

The biggest issue is oiling. You can't go crazy with pinion angle.

The second biggest issue is the load placed on the front pinion bearing when used in a rear axle application. As the rig goes forward, the pinion will try to pull itself in towards the carrier when torque is being applied to the drive shaft. That little pinion bearing has to hold the pinion in place, and if there is a crush sleeve involved, then the pinion will try to crush it even more than what it was set at. A arge enough shock load from say, dumping the clutch with a 502 big block in granny low, will probably cause that crush sleeve to give just a little and then you start to develop play in the pinion bearings. The rest is self explanatory.

hope that makes sense.

I had one for a while with a 401 and granny tranny and never had a problem. I don't think you will.

I broke 2 sets of gears last year in my rear dynatrac 60. they use shims in their set up, so the sleeve couldn't have been an issue. The ring gear is shaved, but it broke in an odd way, not the entire thing..
the second gear set broke 3 months later when I plowed a rock with the rear diff and the bottom of the housing hit the ring gear.
since then I torched out the shavedsection on the housing and built the housing up a bit to accept a full size ring gear. I have had no problems since.
I run a stroked 4.0 and 5.38 gears with an atlas and 38's
