Got the hydro steer done...
Well, here it is:
2.5"x8" Ram, Char-Lynn Valve yada yada... Steering is kinda too many turns center to locks but that was in the parkinglot... we'll test the Smittyoffroad.com arms and tierod and hydrosteering tomorrow... Mo Thanks again Travis for the kickass arms and rod

Wow that looks pretty simple and real nice. The only thing I would be worried about would be bashing that ram, but it looks pretty heavy duty and has the tire right there.. nice

the ram looks good.. but very suspect to nailing rocks... I'd move it, but who knows.. it might work...

the shortest hose is 24" both hoses going to the ram have plenty of slack for droop, but we'll see sunday afternoon... I drove it with 55 being the fastest and it handled pretty damn nice... still gotta set toe tighter tho right now its 1/4" in. I chose the 2.5" ram cause i didnt want too quick a turn as opposed to the 2", but am pondering swapping to the 2" depending on this weekends ride. Im not worried about bashing it on rocks, seeing that the same ram setup was run on 3 comp vehicles of two friends of mine. Besides at under $40 each i'll probably have a spare in the parts bin

I like the nice clean set up. It looks like you should probably flip the mouinting bolt on the axle side the other way to keep from bashing the threads up though. Just one les problem to worry about if ever you did need to change the ram out on the trail.

How close it the tierod to the orbital valve when the drivers tire is at full stuff? It looks like space might get REALLY tight then. Looks good though. Oh yea, nice sig on the jeep, it matches mine exactly

Guess it is time to start doing some searches about full hydro steering. At those prices why was I even considering hydro assist?!
Looks good though. I just want to see the pics on the trail!

The only thing I would be concerned about is when your up to speed is unequal turns left to right.. I would be willing to say that from the centered posistion your looking at 2.5 turns to get full left and 1.5 turns to full right since its a single sided ram.
The install looks good, thats the same place I had my hydro assist ram mounted, it never got rock rash!

WOW... If I mounted my ram there it would be torn off.
I had a ``made by'' plate on my front axle tube and I tore it off, and just last week I painted all the bare metal on my front axle tube.. exactly where the ram is mounted.... Other than that awesome install!! So are you going to be driving it on the street much or is it only a trail rig? I`d love to go full hydro, but my concern is streetability... (to quick of turns, auto recenter... etc) I haven't looked into it much so this may not be a prob.. |

Well, the whole setup kicks major ass!!!
The steering worked flawlessly, we drove about 6 miles to the trail head on a 2 lane road, road feel was, well i couldnt even tell it was hydro steering! the auto return to center is the only thing i dont have, but with the 40" TSLs and full width axles (87" outside tire to outside tire) i expected that. The lenght of the hoses was more than adequate, turns lock to lock are not as bad as people might think. I have about 2.5 either way but it seems slow for offroad. Im thinking the 2" ram will be much quicker offroad. The Hi-steer arms, tierod, and ram allow really tight turns... Well, i dont have close ups of the steering but here is a shot of the stuff we wheeled today... More would have been wheeled but kept spitting rear u-joint caps and finally fawked up the yoke
