NV4500 29 and 23 spline outputs
I wonder if anyone here may know the answer to this question....
Anybody know the diameter of the 29-spline (diesel) and 23-spline (gas) outputs of a NV4500? Or, does anyone know if a 29-spline tailhousing can be used with a 23-spline output shaft? I want to change from a 29 to 23 spline shaft and don't know if I can reuse my tailhousing. |

You can probably change the output shaft. Call advance adaptors or novak and they can probably tell ya the diameters. What are you trying to put behind the 4500?
~Kirk Edit: My 4500 has the 29 spline output and it is HUGE. I have a d300 that is setup for the 29 spline input. If that is what you are looking for. Last edited by tkojeep; 11-24-2003 at 01:21 AM. |

I don't know the answer to either question but I'll throw out what little I do know.
The 29 spline shaft is bigger than the Chevy 32 spline shaft which is HUGE compared to the 23 spline shaft. The Dodge NV4500 tail housing is the shortest production tailhousing by almost 2". The T case bolt pattern is the same for the Jeep 231 and the Dodge 241 cases. I would guess the 23/29 spline tailhousings are the same but I couldn't say for sure. If you're using a 231 or 241 why don't you just get the 29 spline input shaft? It's a lot easier to replace the Tcase input shaft than the Trans output shaft. |

I want to put the NV4500 in front of a Dana 300.
My NV4500 is out of a 93 Dodge diesel, and have thought of adding the 29-spline adapter. But, I figured since I was changing the counter shaft (chipped tooth on one of the gears), there is no excuse for having to increase my drivetrain length (by adding the adapter). I figured that a bearing set in the output of the tailhousing could make up the difference in diameter. Thanks for the responses. |

You need to call advance adapters as well. 800-350-2223. I would probably sell the 29 spline and buy a 23 spline. It will be cheaper to adapt because there is no adapter. you do need an index ring if you get a 96-01 though. for 93-95, it's a bolt up.

29 spline input for your NV4500
Mark;
Either output shaft will work with the Dodge tailhousing. There is a difference in some of the Dodge tailhousings ; gas vs. diesel. The older gas taihousings had a deeper seal bore location therefore they were a straight boltup for a Dana 300. The later Dodge gas used a shallow seal bore location creating the need for a new custom retainer kit for the Dana 300 (we make a nice billet kit for that). Keep your 29 spline output shaft. All current production NV4500's for Dodge gas and diesel both use the 29 spline input. The 23 spline output is no longer current production at NVG. We can supply a really nice custom 29 spline input gear for your Dana 300 allowing you to keep the 29 spline output. Also, if you were to change out the 29 for a 23, it involves more parts changing than just the shaft. As far as rotating the Dana 300; you really don't have to as it only hangs down about 1/4" lower than the bottom of the NV4500 case anyway. John-JB Conversions, Inc.; http://www.jbconversions.com. |

John, thanks for the information.
I have a 1993 NV4500, which I believe will bolt directly to the Dana 300. This new input gear that you speak of, is it a replacement for the stock 23-spline currently in the case or is it an adapter that mates my 23-spline case to my 29-spline transmission? Also, I called JB a couple of days ago looking for pricing information on the new Dana 300 front HD shaft. The lady I spoke with said she didn't have the information. Do you know when it might be available? Thanks again. |

Front Output Shaft/ Input Gear
The F/O shaft kits are in stock. The kit is packaged as shown on the web page. Cost for the 32 spline Front Output Shaft kit is $190.00. It comes with an all-new 32 spline shaft, 1310 cv yoke (others are compatible), bearing and small parts kit.
The 29 spline input gear is a direct replacement for your 23 spline input. Depending on if you have the early NV4500 tailhousing or shallow, late type, you may need our input retainer kit also. The input gear alone is $150. The billet retainer kit if you need it is another $150.00. If you need more detail on the above call me or check it out at www.jbconversions.com. |
