Where in Sac, CA to get the auto tranny in my 98' zj rebuilt???--good & cheap

The tranny in my 98' blew after I got water in it after trying to cross the Eel river in the Redwoods. I got stuck in some quick sand and had water pouring in my door, it leveled out just below my front seat buckets. I thought that was the worst of it, but then my tranny fluid was pink and I barely made it home. I think the tranny used in my 98' was only available for just that 1 year. I was thinking of getting a salvage yard tranny but because the grand uses a digital dash, it will be hard to know whether it is low miles or in decent shape. Any suggestions???

If you get that tranny rebuilt ask them to drill and tap the vent for the tranny. Then run a hose up to a higher location so you dont do that again.

If you want a used tranny call www.jwjeep.com and ask for Neil.

Thanks for the advise guys. I'll get the tranny drilled and tapped. I think the water came through the trans cooler too, but the vent would be a logical entry because I had water up 1/2 my door. I checked J&W, but they want alot for their stuff. They have used trannies for $850 or so, but because the grand cherokee has a digital dash, it is hard to verify the mileage on the tranny that was pulled. Are junk yard trannies any good, or would it be better to get the tranny rebuilt. What do most of you guys do? I have never taken out a tranny, but don't think it is too hard to swap 1 out.

Did you ask for Neil and tell him either Matt or Keith sent you? He will give you a fair deal...certainly less than rebuilding.

I have had good luck. Its an easy swap, just time consuming.
