Home made dana 300 to ax-15 spacer
In the process of putting a pass. side drop clocked 300 into my mj. I bolted it up thinking the clocking ring would be enough of a spacer to provide clearance for the input retainer on the 300 to the seal on my ax-15, but I still needed another 1/2" of spacer. So out came the grinder....

So I cut the tranny mating surface of an old 231 off, milled it down to 1/2", and drilled out the threads. We'll see how it bolts up tomorrow...
A somewhat shady yet free solution for a broke college kid. That and good revenge on the POS 231. |

Ummm....so why didn't you just mill the bearing retainer down and run a sealed bearing? It all ends up the same, but it would have saved you tearing up the 231, a 1/2" of driveline length (not like you need it going to a 300 from a 231) and 1/2" of spline engagement.
When you get that 300 in the MJ, let us know what you had to do to the floor to get the shifters up. Thanks, Jay

It was just a junk 231 case half I had laying around, and I plan on going to a np435 trans someday, so I decided i'd try and save the retainer and some $$ on a sealed bearing.
here's a pic of how it looks now, I need to cut a little more to clear the front driveshaft. Got kind of carried away with the rear of the hole, but it makes stabbing it in pretty easy, just lift it through the top and line it up. |

Yep...that's a big hole, alright! Post some more pics when you have the front clearanced for the shaft. Also, what are you planning on doing to recover the hole when you're finished? Passenger seat?
Jay

I'm not sure on the ZJ (V8?) but switching to a passenger side means you have to re-route the exhaust. mjlogan88: Make sure you post up pics of how you did this (hangers etc.) The nice thing is that it will eliminate the two 45 degree bends around the oil pan. good luck, dont forget to keep those pics and info coming.

I had slap the exhaust on real quick to go see the folks for the holidays so it its pretty hack right now. There's about 1-2" between my muffler and the floorboard and the tubing in front of it just rests on my crossmember for now. I'll grab some pics next week when I get back home.
I'm running a bench seat, so my monstrosity of a hole didnt take out any of the mounting points. |

Are there any links to write ups on non-flipped D300's in an xj/mj or zj? I'm trying to get as much info as I can on this, but I only can come up with swaps into wranglers when I search.

i will take you some pics tonight if i can fawking remember. i cant get the search to work for me right now but i did post the install when i first put it in. if you will search under my user name it should come up. i dont know if any pics will show or not. this is the only pic i have right now
that is the drawing i made of the input retainer and shaft on graft paper. I had the bearing retainer turned down and the input shaft turn down just enough to make a smooth and ordered a seal from motion industries to go at the end of the red tube. i also used a sealed bearing. i will explain it better if need be.
