DD axle question
i'm planning on upgrading my 30/35 combo on my tj with a d60/d14. heres my problem. i cant go full with since i need to keep it as a dd till i finish paying off my wifes car in 2yrs, then i will retire the tj to trail use only. heres what i'm thinking: i believe there is a 70's era ford d60 that measures 65" wms to wms and a d14 from a c & c that is 63" wms to wms. so, with the right back spacing (or maybe hummer wheels) i should still be able to pass the ann'l inspection here in texas, right?. my daily round trip is only 5 miles.
anyone have any thouhts on why my plan is good or bad, any other suggestions. what year ford should i look for at the jy, is it a mid 70's bronco? tks, |

No bronco came with a 60 in the front or rear for that matter. You'll find 30's and 44's under the front of any early bronco up till 77, then you'll find hp44's under the 78-79 big broncos. they'll also be fullwidth. Just something to consider.

Search these forums using the button in the upper right portion of the screen after selecting a forum.
Then read, read some more, search some more, read some more..... This has been coverd time and time again. The information is out there and the possibilities endless. Your in the right place just search. Go to the tech section first, plenty of info on the D60 there to keep you busy. I just completed a D60 & HP44 in DD TJ and found everything here to make my desicion and build it. You need to educate/decide on the Steering configuration, Bracket requirements vs space, wheel bolt pattern, Semi Floater, Full floater...

I would just slap an 8.8 or D44 under the rear and call it good for the next couple years, then upgrade at will. Think how much $$ you will spend on steering, brakes, brackets, suspension parts, etc etc etc, that you could use to pay on your wifes car.
