Transmission/tcase swap
I am going to be taking the 2.8L out of my 85 XJ and putting in a 34.L
My question is what transmission/tcase should I go with? I have a 5 speed in it right now and thought about swapping in an auto Another question, would a TH350 bolt up to the 3.4? I have access to a good TH350 cheap is the reason I am thinking the TH350 Thanks for any advice Bruce |

The G.M. 2.8L, 3.1L, and the 3.4L engines WILL NOT bolt up to a G.M. TH350 tranny, bolt patterns are totally wrong. The Only Chevy V6 that does share the same bolt pattern with the Chevy V8's is the 4.3L V6. I have done a lot of research to come up with a more powerful motor on the cheap. I have the Chrysler 904 behind my 2.8L, and I have had no problems as of yet, and I have laid it over once, climbed hills at better than 45 degres, AND towed my '49 flat fender from Vernal, Ut. to Fort Collins, Co. As long as you DON'T have the Peugeot 5-speed trans, you should not have much trouble with a smaller V6.
IF you really want the TH350 trans, and want more power, consider a 4.3L V-6, they came in fuel injected and carbed versions, this is what I have in the works, AFTER I prove to a few skeptics that I can pull 150plus horses from a 2.8L V6, by using SALVAGE YARD PARTS. good luck to ya.
