converting waggy 6 lug to 5x4.5

im hoping on converting my waggy d44 front to 5x4.5 but im not too sure on my options.

from searching ive found out that i can use some 70's dodge but they are aparently crap and im not interested in that.

basically i will be keeping the d44 rear in my jeep so i am hoping to match the pattern and keep my rims, or will it be easier and cheaper just to make the rear 6 lug and get some rims?

spacers are the option i would prefer to go but i havnt found any to go from 6 to 5x4.5 or from 5x4.5 to 6.

4.5" isn't enough room for the hub to stick out.

Convert the front to 5 on 5.5 and get dual bolt pattern alloys to match.

just get a waggy rear 44, 4 new cheapie steelies and be done with it. All that conversion madness makes the axle a one-off rendering replacements/field swaps a beatch.

And move this to newbie, puhleese

Well, you answer your own question.

Looks like your unhappy with your findings, guess you can't do it.

Just get some new/used wheels, and this has been covered many times, try the search above.

you could just spend the extra $100 or so and get a rear waggy d44. or you could get cromos that are 6 lug for your exsisting d44.

just call superior and order the rear shafts with both 5 on 4.5 and 5 on 5.5 patterns drilled into them. redrill the rear drums to 5 on 5.5 (very easy even with a hand drill) and then convert the waggy axle to 5 on 5.5

Go 5 on 5.5 for the front and get adapters/spacers for the rear. Or sell your rear TJ 44 for $1200 (Someone on JU will pay that) and build a Waggy 44 for the rear with RE brackets. Then most of your axle parts OEM/Aftermarket will be off the shelf Waggy items easy for replacement.

The biggest hassle will be getting the 5 on 5.5 stuff and a cajillion Ford F150s came with that. Gotta tear down the axle and pull that stuff off and rebuild before you put it in anyway. I'll trade you 5.5 stuff for your 6 lug stuff.

what i ment was why not get some 6 lug shafts made for the rear from someone like dutchmen or moser and then find a waggy d44 in the junk yard and take the brakes off of it. why go through all the hassel of converting both to 5 on 5.5?

lets review.
$275 gets you new chromoly shafts for the rear with both bolt patterns
$100 in junk yard parts gets you 5 on 5.5 in the front
though I have no idea why anyone would ever do this rather than just start with a high pinion 5 on 5.5 ford axle.

Just put a HP30 in it out of an XJ. The Waggy 44 is only marginally stronger and you don't have to weld any brackets on the HP30 and the lug pattern will be the same. If you are going to the trouble of welding brackets on at least put a Ford HP44 in it.

thats what i was hoping i could do, just order some 6 lug shafts, but doing a waggy 44 or a toy axle and selling the other one sounds like a good idea.
